RB/WR/DB Demario McCall (Official Thread)

Agreed. I was actually highly impressed with DMC on that play.

The receiver (Olave) was not wide open, like the Alabama receivers were. We had a player within 2 feet.

Olave did not run by DMC, like he does most of the B1G.

DMC was turned around looking for the ball, which is always appreciated by tOSU fans. I "think" DMC got a little bit off balance or he would have jumped too?????

Basically DMC made Olave make a play that many are raving about (forcing him to jump up over).

Now the ball may have been slightly underthrown, making much of the above chatter worthless ...
He wasn't off balance look at his hands he was waiting for it and trying to basket catch it and Olave went up and took it. But as you said everything else was great so hopefully he learns to highpoint.

That's awesome. So he was pretending it was a kickoff and was going to basket catch it.

In my mind, DMC is the best news for the beleaguered pass defense since Sawyer got 4 sacks.

When your team finishes 116th in pass defense, you have look extra hard for good news.

'Rep-eater' Demario McCall making most of switch to cornerback for Buckeyes

Demario-McCall-by-Birm-LR.jpg

Demario McCall sat down at a table surrounded by media Friday after Ohio State practice.

He was ready for the questions about his switch to defensive back. About the potential that never came to fruition on the offensive side of the ball. And most importantly about his maturity — an aspect and side of McCall rarely, if ever, seen during his Buckeyes career.

McCall was more candid than he has ever been in the past. His tenor was different. And he was ready to discuss what has gone into the maturation process in becoming a better player — this time on the defensive side of the ball as he battles for playing time in a new role.

“I feel like a lot of people who would who would have been in my shoes right now would have transferred or left,” McCall said. “That’s the easy way. I just feel like me being me and just where I come from, the transition from receiver to corner was the easy part for me. So it was not a hard choice for me to make at all. …

“I mean, to be honest, nobody wants to be [in college] six years. But we all got different routes. God has a plan for all of us. This is the plan. He’s driving, and I’m with it.”

In the age of the transfer portal, it would have been easy for McCall to decide to go to a school where he might get some more playing time. Since McCall has been at Ohio State, Tate Martell has been at three different schools, so anybody can go somewhere else if they are bothered by the littlest thing. Instead, McCall opted to stay at Ohio State and fight for playing time. It’s not often that you see that these days.

With Ohio State’s current depth at running back and wide receiver, there is no room for McCall to try and find playing time at one of those positions. McCall still has worth on the team though, and is showing how selfless he is by moving to the other side of the football and playing at cornerback in preseason practice. And judging by the video from Dave Revsine of Big Ten Network, he is picking up his new position pretty quick. Even though Garrett Wilson was able to haul in the pass, McCall at least held one of the best receivers in the country in check.

I love McCall and hope he makes an impact this year. I don't see any issues with coverage at all with his athleticism, not many receivers are going to get separation on him. The key for him is playing the ball when it's in air. Seemed like he was right there in coverage the whole Spring Game, but sometimes didn't adjust to the ball. Some of that should come with reps adjusting to the new position, but it's going to be interesting to see if Demario contributes at corner.

Whatever. I'm rooting for him to have a great year.

You can't help but root for him. He could've left for, say a MAC level school and started and possibly starred. And now he's on his 3rd(possibly 4th if you include KR) position change in his final year of eligibility. I hope he can make the NFL at CB, or even just special teams

I’m a big McCall guy, he has flashed his abilities time after time. Patience, great attitude, willingness to adapt. The kid is a stud. He could be one of the greats under different circumstances. I hope he has an amazing final season and blows the doors off of this thing on his way out.

There are many who have been given an obscene amount of opportunity/field time and they aren’t half as good as McCall can be.

Kudos to this man for sticking it out!

PICK SIX COMING? Demario McCall might be playing a new position these days, but that doesn't change the fact that the dude absolutely owns Rutgers.

He's already coming off a shockingly solid performance on defense this week, where he had four tackles and a pass breakup. So I think it's safe to say the next step is a pick-six.
