RB Sam Williams-Dixon (Official Thread)

One (me at least) wonders what the thoughts were about portaling it, whether for PT or $, and finding out that whomever one was listening to was full of it. Was surprised, a good player, certainly, but as a RS freshman, with little to no on field experience, declaring they are ready for bigger things. Doesn't make sense to me, but hey, who cares. After a few telephone calls, reality must have set in, and he scurried back into Mother tOSU's welcoming arms. Do wonder if Day thought that they had better RBs coming in, and whether they really needed him or not. Not a given, as once a player declares for the portal, their scholarship is gone, and the university needs to reinstate it, at their will. Probably never know, but....

I don't think the decisions have to make sense to us fans if players believe another team could possibly pay them more.
I always use the analogy of players to adults in general in the job market. Someone can look for other jobs/companies, but until the offer is out and they see the salary can a decision be made. Many people have no problem job hopping on a yearly basis, same as kids playing the NIL game. Some people will be at a job for a year or 2 and then start looking on Indeed for another job, some will leave for more money and hate the new job, some will leave and love the new job. Some may look at Indeed and realize their current company isn't so bad and stay, this looks to be the situation for SWD. I think, like most athletes, he wants to play, and I also think that he thought a program on the same scale as OSU would come with more PT and possibly more NIL. That didn't happen, and now he'll be in a dog fight for the 3rd RB spot. His situation is starting to remind me of the Evan Pryor situation

Color me as one of those that was 'looking for greener pastures'. Did it twice (switch jobs for more money), and those two jobs were the worst ever had. After a couple of years, one should be able to size up the mindset/attitude of a company, whether stable, path to advancement, of is it fun to do, and am I learning. Being labeled a 'job hopper' is not a good thing. But in the world of college football, shake my head at the player that is good enough to switch multiple times, but never make an impact anywhere else. (He's on his fourth school in five years). But, I do understand that the shelf life of a collegiate player is five years (am I correct that Covid eligibility is mostly gone?). Whereas a corporate type has a lifespan of 40 years or so.
