RB Miyan “Chop” Williams (Official Thread)

I don't think anyone needs inside information to have the opinion that he leaves his starters in too long in blowout games, so I disagree with your statement.

Opinion is exactly it. Your opinion is based on your prospective. Get the win and get out? Yes, for sure… it’s probably a fair statement to suggest that he leaves starters in too long. However, if his objective isn’t getting the win and getting out, but getting the win and getting his players experience against other teams (and DCs) while building endurance for having to go a full game… he may be right on the money.

Even when coaching against teams where my team overmatches the opponent, I let starters go to get experience against guys who they don’t see in practices all week. And certainly when the shoe is on the other foot, I’ve seen coaches leave their starters in against my kids for the same reason. Ain’t no practice better than playing someone who wants to take your head off.

It all comes down to Day’s objectives.

Last year I thought he pulled them to early and when they got in a street fight with scUM the took over the LOS even though our individual talent was greater. It’s opinion, Days getting paid millions to have the right opinion.

Exactly. I’m not judging either side in the argument. But your point regarding Day’s opinion is spot on. He gets all the good and the bad of having the only opinion that matters.

It’s a job that has a very public evaluation. OSU for good or bad is defined by wins and losses. Day is a very good coach and has great character which would matter more than wins and losses at division 3 or HS. At OSU job evaluation is different.

No disagreement from me, but none of that makes the opinion invalid, as was suggested.

Lol baloney. I wish and so does everyone else but not likely.

Sounded to me (I may be wrong) that he was talking about next week, and he went on to say he thought there was a really good chance he’d have 2 of the three back by next week. Sounded intentionally vague to me. Like he wants you to think that the team is 66% sure of each of them; wouldn’t be at all surprised if what he means but won’t say is that Chip and Trey will be back next week.

Give him and Henderson the week off. Let some youngsters get experience this week.

I would agree with that for this game. Passing attack should be all we need here, and get some carries for Hayden. Neither of Miyan or Henderson are winning any individual awards or records because of the injuries and time share, so no reason to get them reinjured or injured worse in the Maryland game. Have their legs as fresh as humanly possible for The Game and the stretch after that (hopefully), we will need them both. I think they could likely both play if The Game was this week, but it's not and the bigger picture is really what matters.

And while team wins are #1, letting Stroud let it rip increases his Heisman odds. Let's be real, adding another Heisman in the WHAC would be awesome for CJ and for the program, plus it is really our strength and best odds of beating the brakes off of MD unless we have weather like we did in Evanston, which it appears we will not. But specific to Miyan, I think he is going to be incredibly important on November 26th and I don't want to risk not having him even if he is completely healthy. Obviously I trust the coaches but I really don't even want to see him enter this game for a single play.

  • Day thinks we "have a really good chance" to get Henderson, Williams, and Trayanum back this week.

Word has it we will likely run a lot of wishbone formation this week with the plethra of healthy backs to utilize. Remember, I brought you the WebMD update on Chop first so I have earned a lot of trust on this board.

Don't be ridiculous. We'll mix in some wing-t and power I. Might throw the ball 2-3 times if warranted.
