Ohio State enters national championship free of Clarett's shadow
Saturday, December 30, 2006
By JOE MILICIA Associated Press Writer

COLUMBUS ? The last time Ohio State played for a national championship, Maurice Clarett scored the winning touchdown.

Continued...

His mother, Michelle, also declined an interview request.

About time that worthless retard learned to keep her mouth shut. Apple didn't fall far from the tree it seems.

I watched The Bowl Game the other night on Classic and MoC's play to strip the ball was more incredible than I remembered. The guy had insane football awareness and that play showed it. He never even tried to make the tackle on Taylor. He knew what he was going to do before or as soon as he took the angle to intercept him. Taylor had just made the pick and was liable to take it for six, but it was like the game around MoC was moving slowly. I thought at the time that it was a game saving play, but it was one hell of a effort.

What is even more remarkable to me is that MoC even caught Taylor. Taylor had a straight run down the sideline, and MoC had to take an angle across the field. He ran him down. It's just one of those head scratchers when you take it with all the jokes about MoC's 40-time at the combine.

I mean ... Come On!!! When the lights were brightest, he ran down Sean. Fucking. Taylor!

Thats because MoC was a freak of fucking nature, too bad he made some wrong choices.. what a waste of incredible talent. I still think he would have won the heisman as a sophmore, carrying the bucks to another national title.

Top 10 Most Useless Jersey's

10. Maurice Clarett, Denver Broncos
Although he wasn?t an early draft selection, the fact that Denver took him on the first day created enough buzz to convince fans his troubles were in the past. Given the track record of turning average running backs into fantasy football God?s, optimism soon replaced disinterest and disbelief in a running back that had been on top of the world at Ohio State. Needless to say, he was signed in late July and released a month later, thus crushing the hopes of the proud fans that?d purchased his jersey in hopes of being trendsetters.

Glad to hear Krenzel give Clarett respect. I feel no ill will towards Clarett. The kid backed his self into a corner and handled the situation very badly. I believe regardless of the situation he is a Buckeye and will always be a Buckeye. Krenzel is just a class act and he's showing that us fanatics sometimes take things to serious.

Bucknuts.com - Buckeye Signature Series: Craig Krenzel

The interviewer asked Krenzel what 2 tailbacks he'd want in the backfield with him if he could pick any Buckeye from the last 15 years. Interesting how much respect he had for 13s talent. It's been a few years, but the whole saga still makes me sad. Here's CKs answer:

Other than Eddie (and possibly Wells) who has been better? Pittman? Pepe? Wiley? Combs? Give me a break - this isn't a hard question to answer.

I gotta go with Tibs on this one too :sigh:

MoC was the ONLY reason that offense moved the ball at all that season. Not to mention he essentially saved the NC game by stripping Sean Taylor on the INT return. He also had a couple really really good blitz pickups that season that allowed krenzel to be able to get the ball off.

All in all, he was well on the way to being an all-time great, but couldn't keep it together off the field.....

That wasn't my point.

It wasn't the player he picked that I found classy. It was the way he answered it. He certainly didn't have to talk that highly of him.

I agree too. Clarett could do it all - pass block, run, catch, supposedly wasn't fast but could break a big one, wasn't overly big - but made linebackers and safetys look like chumps.

His last TD (the game winning one, I believe) against Miami in the Fiesta Bowl was a thing of beauty - watch how he juked the gap plugging Canes LB/Safety 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage.

I think Eddie and Chris Wells (by the time he is done w/ his career) were better, but in terms of impact - Maurice had a bigger impact, even though Eddie won a Heisman, MoC sent shockwaves throughout the landscape of college football for both his on field play...and unfortunately, his off-field transgressions.

Take it FWIW, but a good friend of mine who played on the 2002 NC team, happens to be a former OSU fullback, once told me that #13 was one of the best teammates with whom he had ever played.

Sigh, what a waste of talent.
