Maurice Clarett?s football comeback was a success, certainly to him.
The Warren Harding graduate and former Ohio State running back from Youngstown says he would gladly spend another year with the United Football League?s Omaha Nighthawks if they want him back. He feels lucky to have played anywhere and been given a chance to rebuild his life after being incarcerated for 31/2 years.
?In January, I was in prison, and now I?ve completed a professional football season,? Clarett said recently. ?I would absolutely say I could never ever have thought of being at this place. It?s a blessing from God, and I take it that way.?
The 27-year-old Clarett hadn?t played competitively since he led Ohio State to the 2002 national championship. He was suspended by the NCAA for taking improper inducements and failed to make it in the NFL.

With the season over, Clarett is back in Columbus, where he?ll live with his girlfriend, Ashley Evans, and their 4-year-old daughter, Jayden. He?s enrolled for the spring semester at Ohio State.
He said he?s two years from completing his degree in gerontology. He?ll also continue working out at OSU to prepare for next season.

I despise, utterly despise, what Maurice Clarett tried to do to Ohio State.

That said, I really hope that he pulls this off. To see a young man with so much potential turn his life around is a story that could motivate thousands of others.

Hamba kahle!

I just stumbled over E:60 on ESPN and Rachel Nicholls was doing a piece on Clarett. It looked like him, but it sure didn't sound like the kid I remember from about 7 years ago. He sounds like an adult now, and by all accounts is living right. He made 50k playing in the UFL. He asked to not be paid until the end of the season, rather than game by game. He didn't want any distractions until the season was over.

He says he no longer drinks. He's doing volunteer work with kids and taking care of his daughter and her mom. He may never play in the NFL, but I hope he stays the course and makes something of himself. He paid a huge price for his mistakes and I'm rooting for him to succeed.

If you get a chance I recommend catching this show and seeing him for yourself.

It's not surprising to me that Mo is well spoken. IIRC, Mo had a good GPA and SAT score coming out of high school. The young man is not stupid, he just chose to follow a lot of bad advise. I know he caused tOSU a lot of grief, but I would love to see him turn it around.

Having the presence of mind, to tackle the ball, and not Sean Taylor was the play that beat Miami. Forgive me for bringing it up again, but I will never forget the one high school game I saw him play. Playoff game against Lakewood ST. Edward, 312 yards on 13 carries, and 5 TDs.......in the first half!

Currently Playing for the Omaha Nighthawks of the American Football League

One would think the person issuing this release would get the name of MoC's current employer - the United Football League - correct. :ohwell:

Maurice Clarett on Omaha UFL team's protected list
Published Wednesday, April 6, 2011

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) ? Maurice Clarett is among the players on the Omaha Nighthawks' 40-man protected list for the United Football League's 2011 season.

The starting quarterback from a year ago, Jeff Garcia, is not on the list announced Wednesday. Neither is former All-Pro running back Ahman Green, the team's main attraction last year. Green has said he'll play in the CFL.

Clarett is the former Ohio State star who spent 3 1/2 years in prison for aggravated robbery. He backed up Green last season and carried 37 times for 154 yards and a touchdown.

Does the story of Marcus Dupree remind anyone of MoC? Ignoring the reasons for the career derailment (injury vs arrest drama).

Honestly, I think Dupree was an even better RB and that's not a knock on MoC. He was that good.
