Maurice Clarett is expected to get a judge's OK to play.

OMAHA, Neb. - Wearing the same No. 13 he wore as an Ohio State freshman eight years ago, Maurice Clarett began his bid to return to football last night on a high school field where the minor-league Omaha Nighthawks practiced before a handful of onlookers.

Clarett signed a one-year contract with the United Football League team earlier in the day after meeting with team officials and UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue, who gave his blessing.

It was Clarett's first football activity since he was a bust with the Denver Broncos and spent 31/2 years in prison for armed robbery in 2006.

"I am humbled by the opportunity the Omaha Nighthawks have given me and will dedicate myself on and off the field to prove that I can be a valuable member of the team and the Omaha community," Clarett said in a statement. "I am committed to working hard to earn the right for a second chance in football and more importantly in life."

Nothing about this story would make me happier than for MC, long years from now, to publish an autobiography titled "Lucky Thirteen", in which he recounts his journey from juvenile superstar to misguided teen to a supremely accomplished, productive man. Make it happen, Mo, make it happen. Huge numbers of us are rooting for you to succeed...again.

You're right buddy....what was i thinking...stupid me....Go Clarett! Go Omaha whatevers..kick some ass.

Get serious the UFL is using this once tremendous Buckeye as a side show freak to sell tickets

So what? Again, how does it hurt you?

...I'm not wishing against him and I hope he turns it all around. It is just hokey and not news worthy.

Then why do you keep commenting on it?

The only good part of the story is Tress. showing his true colors. But What Ev.

HB

He's not the only one showing his true colors.

Maurice Clarett says he's keeping a positive attitude.

OMAHA, Neb. - Maurice Clarett sidestepped questions about his past yesterday in his first comments since signing with Omaha's United Football League team, saying he wants to discuss what lies ahead.

The former Ohio State star said that he was unsure he would be given a chance to play again. He said his legs are fresh and he's confident he can be successful once he readjusts to the demands of football.

Clarett hasn't played in a game since helping Ohio State to the 2002 national championship. He broke NCAA rules for accepting gifts, lost a bid to enter the NFL after his freshman year, got cut by the Denver Broncos once he was drafted, and then served 31/2 years in prison on robbery and weapons charges.

"I learned a lot, but more so just be humble about everything and stay positive in character and keep a good attitude about what goes on," Clarett said.

Maybe the best thing going for him is that he hasn't had six or seven seasons of running back wear and tear at tOSU and in the pros. The thing about MoC that set him apart from other backs was his natural vision and feel for the game. If he's lost that or can't get it back, this experiment doesn't go very far. If not, and if he stays motivated and in shape, he could play five or six seasons, including possibly a few in the NFL.

If he stays in focused, my money is that he makes it to the NFL sooner rather than later. Looking at what a joke the RB position is here in Chicago, if he's 1/2 of what he used to be and could stay focused, he'd easily beat out Garrett Wolfe.

I know that I said this earlier in the thread, but I am really pulling for this kid. I feel that it would be a great story and an inspiration for those who have been humbled and beaten down. He seems so much more mature, so you can't help but root for the kid.

Things like this are what makes Tressel such a good coach and more importantly a good person. He does not walk away from his players, especially the ones who need him the most. I applaud him for that and I applaud Maurice for what he is doing right now.
