But seriously, I would love to see Berry get some solid looks this year not just on ST. I hate it when we get solid recruits that end up sitting on our bench, then transfering. Our QB stable next year will be very tough if Pryor stays all four years; I can only imagine next year if all of our RBs stay around.
I have had some difficulty coming to terms with a talented recruit getting left on the bench and ending up transferring in the past as well. I keep telling myself that if the kid isn't playing A) the guys in front of him are better (ie trust the coaches) and, B) it's a tough decision for the guy to have to leave his first choice of schools to go play elsewhere, but it's also in his best interest considering.

That said, I would not like to lose any of the RBs or QBs on the roster (or those that are in coming) to a transfer and I am really anxious to see Berry out there. (I want to be clear, I'm not suggesting that a transfer is at all in Berry's (or any other RB, QB) future, or anything of the sort... just making the observation).

Couple of thoughts on Berry and the crowded backfield.

1. Neither Saine nor Herron gave us the RB last year that we need to win a NC this year. That may have be OL. That may be Pryor not making Defenses respect the pass. Regardless, our options were so limited that we had to turn to a true Frosh as 3rd RB. A healthy Berry would have gotten his chance.

2. This year the OL and QB problems should be resolved - and the backfield is a bit more crowded. If neither Saine nor Herron can become a prototypical OSU TB somebody needs to step out of that crowd.

3. Unless that person is Herron the TB job is wide open next year. (I like Herron a lot - but 3.9 YPC isn't getting it done.) I am impressed with Hyde - but his running style does not point to an every down back. That means Berry would just need to get in front of Hall or Smith to get some serious carries.

4. In any case Berry has already used his RS. A medical 6th year might be a tough option at a second school. So if he is in the mix after Saine leaves great. If not - well....

(No puns intended. But FWIW this entire post is an anagram of this year's OSU roster.)
