And yet why am I not totally sold on this guy? Don’t get me wrong I think he is very good and solid RB.
What I don’t see is him breaking away and out running folks. He goes down seemingly pretty easily and gets tripped up a lot. He tends to dance in the hole or miss the hole altogether.
I was disappointed on the wheel route when he ran out of bounds instead of taking on the DB and getting 3-5 more yards. Granted the 2nd wheel route grab in the end zone was a thing of beauty.
It will be interesting to see if one of the other backs challenges for carries next year with Weber more than likely gone.

Wat? He’s the best total package running back we have. He runs routes better than nearly every running back in the country. He has ridiculous running ability. His offensive line’s lack of run blocking this season (AND the fact that OSU had another RB rush for 800 yards) is the only thing holding him back from another 1400-1500 yard season. That would put him on pace for 4500 career rushing yards in three seasons... Not sure what you expect, but Barry Sanders isn’t walking through that door anytime soon.

I personally like Weber better. I think he runs harder, has better vision, hits the hole quicker, doesn’t go down as easy and has more longer runs. If he didn’t have fumbling issues he would be my 1a over Dobbins. He’s also better in protection. Granted Dobbins is a better receiver and again not saying he isn’t a very good back.

Weber’s been solid all year, not just against Michigan. He didn’t play against Maryland opening the door for Dobbins 30+ carries.
Again nothing against Dobbins, I think he is a very good back. I’m still going to be interested to see if Snead (assuming he is back) or someone else gets in the mix for some carries.

What holes? The offensive line was a monumental disappointment creating solid running lanes for both RBs. Both Weber and Dobbins saw SIGNIFICANT drops in yards per carry from last season. That isn’t on either RB. When the OL actually blocks for them, Dobbins actually averaged nearly a full yard more per carry than Weber while also providing 100 more yards receiving per season. Weber was phenomenal his RS Freshman season, but nagging injuries have slowed him down significantly over the past two seasons. And it wasn’t due to over-usage. Here’s to hoping either Stud figures out how to diagnose what’s wrong with the run blocking, or they move on and bring someone in better equipped to coach players in run blocking and pass blocking.

He goes through stages. I think this year has been trying for him and Weber... with the lack of holes and frustration.
But watch TCU in the 2nd half and the way he finds little gaps in space to get another 2 here and 2 there.
There's been times where Weber also seems to just go down, and other times when he fights the lack of blocking and gets his own yards the hard way.
It's gotta be hard to keep that up all game, though.
I assume with Snead and Teague that we'll continue to have multiple guys involved. Throw in McCall.
Would love to get Weber over 1k this year, but 142 seems like a tall order for this OLine.

Mike Weber announced his decision Sunday night to forgo his redshirt senior season at Ohio State and enter the 2019 NFL draft following the Rose Bowl, surprising virtually no one. Many people expected him to enter the draft after last season, but the running back decided to come back for one more season at the collegiate level.
Weber and Dobbins split carries during the 2017 season, then rotated again this season, though Dobbins had 93 more carries than Weber last season and has 66 more rushes than his counterpart this season.
Without Weber next year, there will be no splitting carries for Dobbins. It’ll be his backfield and, more than likely, his offense.

The Buckeyes will likely lose Dwayne Haskins to the NFL, along with Weber. They’ll replace him with either a run-first quarterback – Tate Martell – or Matthew Baldwin, a redshirting freshman who missed practice time after suffering a torn ACL in the state championship game as a senior in high school.
Whichever quarterback lines up behind center will be throwing to an almost entirely new cast of wideouts. Parris Campbell, Johnnie Dixon and Terry McLaurin are in their final collegiate seasons, and K.J. Hill is expected to take a long look at the NFL. Even on the offensive line, there will be significant turnover. Right tackle Isaiah Prince and left guard Malcolm Pridgeon are seniors. Right guard Demetrius Knox, who started every game until he got hurt in the final regular-season game of the season, is a senior, as well. Left guard Michael Jordan, who is in his third season as a starter, could head to the NFL a year early.
Dobbins is the sure thing. Ohio State knows what it will get from him, and he has consistently produced, all while saying the right things.
“I am not a selfish person,” Dobbins said on Wednesday. “I am a team player first. Whatever the team needs to do to win a game, that’s what we’re going to do. If it’s him getting 30 carries and I get five, and if we win, I’m fine with it.”
He never once complained about splitting carries. But, like any other running back, Dobbins will be excited to serve as Ohio State’s feature running back. In fact, he began his collegiate career in the same situation he’ll end it next year.
Weber wasn’t healthy enough to play in last year’s season opener against Indiana, so Dobbins, a true freshman playing his first-ever game at Ohio State, stepped in and took 29 carries for 181 yards, an average of 6.2 yards per rush. Since Weber has dealt with off-and-on injuries the past two seasons, Dobbins has had a few games as the go-to running back.
About a month ago, while Weber was out with a quad bruise, Dobbins had the backfield to himself against Maryland. He had a staggering 37 rushes for a career-best 203 yards, which included a one-yard touchdown plunge.
Though he didn’t know it at the time, it was a preview of what next year could be like – and he thoroughly enjoyed the chance to tote the ball so frequently.
“When you can play more than one drive at a time, you can get in a groove,” Dobbins said after the 37-rush game. “I'm an energetic guy, so whenever I get in a groove, I get pretty energetic.”
He didn’t even feel out of sorts following the career-high performance.
“I like it,” Dobbins said after the game. “I feel like I'm a tough guy. I don't feel that sore right now. I just feel tired.”
After that game, he still played the role of a good teammate, saying “it's easy to split carries” and that he doesn’t care about trading series with Weber. But it wasn’t hard to tell how much he enjoyed being Ohio State’s sole running back, even for just one day.
Next season, Dobbins won’t have to split carries.
Demario McCall, who moved to H-back going into this season but went back to running back late in the season, could factor in the team’s plans as a smaller, faster back. Other than him, though, Ohio State lacks experienced running backs. Master Teague, a true freshman, has just 17 carries this season and hasn’t touched the ball since the fourth week of the season. Brian Snead, a fellow freshman, hasn’t been on the sidelines for most of the season due to disciplinary action for undisclosed reasons. Marcus Crowley, a 2019 commit, will also enter the scene as a true freshman next season.
Dobbins has accumulated back-to-back seasons of 1,000 rushing yards. He shouldn't have any trouble achieving that milestone a third time.
How about a 2,000-rushing yard season?

In his freshman season, after getting the starting position due to then-redshirt sophomore running back Mike Weber’s hamstring injury, Dobbins impressed, amassing 1,403 yards on 7.2 yards per carry.
As the primary back, with Weber mostly being used as a secondary option, Dobbins consistently gained momentum and made his impact known.
This season, with both Weber and Dobbins at full strength, it was expected the duo would become one of the most lethal backfield combinations in the NCAA.
That didn’t happen quite as hoped.
“I think I did lose a little bit of mojo,” Dobbins said.
Dobbins is barely over 1,000 yards, sitting at 1,029 through 13 games, and Weber sits at 858 yards. Both have the lowest yards-per-carry averages of their Ohio State careers, with Dobbins dropping more than two yards from the season before with 4.6 yards per rush.
The Buckeyes failed to reach 100 yards rushing in back-to-back games in the middle of the season against Minnesota and Purdue, the first two times that has happened since the loss in the 2016 College Football Playoff to Clemson.
Ohio State ranks No. 57 in rush offense with 175.8 yards per game. In 2017, the Buckeyes were No 17. In 2015 and 2016, they were up to No. 11.
Blame could be shifted to the offensive line, but Dobbins thinks it had more to do with the momentum both him and Weber failed to find at times throughout the year.
“It was just we weren’t getting it going,” Dobbins said. “When we got it going, I got my mojo back, and I feel like I got the same burst that I had last year.”
When looking back at the season, Dobbins’ star performances came against Nebraska and Maryland. He rushed 23 times for 163 yards and three touchdowns in the five-point victory against the Cornhuskers. Weber rushed the ball nine times.
The sophomore running back cited that game as the one that was the start of getting his mojo back.
“I got into a rhythm,” Dobbins said. “It’s kind of hard switching drives every single drive.”
