RB Ezekiel Elliott (All B1G, All-American, National Champion, Pro Bowl, All Pro, Dallas Cowboys)

Overpaid for a blocking back.

The Cowboys were already committed to Elliott for at least the next two seasons given the financial realities of his contract, but this restructure seems likely to extend his tenure through at least the 2023 season. He is set to count against the cap for just $6.82 million in 2021, but his cap number will jump to $18.2 million in 2022 and $16.7 million in 2023. The dead cap numbers in the event that the Cowboys cut Elliott in either of the next two off seasons are $30.8 million (making him virtually uncuttable prior to 2022) and $11.9 million in 2023 (meaning the Cowboys would save less than $5 million by releasing him before the 2023 season).

Sounds like he has a pretty good contract, etc.

Finished with 95 yards on 17 carries. Can't believe Mike McCarthy didn't give him one or two more carries to reach 100 yards. Does McCarthy not understand Zeke has personal goals?

/sarcasm

McCarthy gave Zeke an additional carry when he was at 96 yards on 16 carries. Ding for condition precedent fail in building your case for sarcasm, and ding to everyone who liked your post. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your souls.

Today's stats: 20 carries, 143 yards, 7.2 ave., 1 TD

"Everybody can eat."
That's what Elliott proclaimed this week after sending the message that he himself was not incapable of enjoying the Cowboys' offensive buffet -- as his critics suggested. Following a strong outing that helped the Cowboys escape with a narrow win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2 -- which led to Elliott seeing his stock rise for 2021 with critical third-down conversions and other timely plays -- all he did was build upon that success by hammering the Eagles into submission in the Dallas home opener. His runs were dirty, punishing and fruitful, with the two-time rushing champ finishing the day with 95 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 21 receiving yards on three catches.

Just sayin': Did somebody light a fire under Zeke's butt or what?

The Dallas Cowboys rolled to a 44-20 win against the New York Giants in Week 5, but not until after running back Ezekiel Elliott had a brief injury scare when he fell on top of a pylon — one with camera gear housed inside — during a third-quarter rush. Granted, Elliott would be fine in the end, but the Cowboys rusher did not let the day go by without sharing some thoughts on the objects that have become far less soft than they might appear.

“Yeah, I fell on the pylon. That thing is kind of hard. Maybe they should find a new spot for it,” Elliott told reporters following the win, via CowboysWire.com. “I think it is foamy, but it’s hard. It’s hard. The bottom- the base of it- is hard, too. No, it’s definitely not soft ...

"Yeah, it definitely hurt. Normally, I get up and at least get off the field. But right there, I had to chill out a little bit. It kind of just stabbed me. Lost my wind.”
