RB Daniel "Boom" Herron (Official Thread)

It's still a nice mark to pass obviously though.

Exactly my point. Not trying to say he's a comparable RB to Beanie. Just wanted to give him props for that stat. Assuming Boom stays for his senior year, he would probably move into 4th place in school history. Tim Spencer and Harold Henson are tied at 4th with 36. George has 44. All he does is score touchdowns.

Boom's a RS JR right? Don't they usually reserve the right to be a captain for Seniors? If Booms already at 22 with a whole season to go, I see no reason why he won't catch Beanie.

I think he's the most underrated player on the entire team.

It's fun to watch Boom pick his slot and form-up behind or next to blocking. He's truly a Running Back with a Buckeye football heart.

Meet a Buckeye: Daniel Herron

Daniel Herron is the first to admit he's not exactly Mr. Excitement off the field. With the practice and preparation he does for football, then going to class, the junior starting tailback said his workday starts early and usually ends after 8 p.m. That leaves little free time for leisure activities such as watching TV or playing video games. And during that down time, he said he prefers spending moments with or talking by phone to family and friends. Which led to our first question:

Q: When you do get the chance to watch a little TV, what's your favorite show?

A: Everybody Hates Chris.

Q: Why?

A: I don't know, it's just because everybody on it hates Chris for some reason or another. I know it makes me laugh.

Q: Because you watch little TV, do you ever hear people talking about a show and you have no idea what they're talking about?

A: All the time. I may hear them talking about certain reality shows and others I didn't even know were out there. And I might say, "Really? That's pretty crazy." I guess there are a lot of reality shows out there I've never seen.

I'm so proud of Boom. His hard work goes back long before he arrived at Ohio State, and I'm thrilled to see that it's still paying off!

Ill never forget when I was in high school and we played Harding. Boom was by far the best HS played i have ever played against. He was a beast, even thou we won:), he still tore it up. He just seems to get better everyweek.

With a pissed off Oline, I think Boom is a 1500 yard RB. I dont think we have that kind of line though and he probably wont see enough action. He is a great finisher though and his vision is superb. His burst seems to get better as the season goes on as well. We're in great shape in the backfield thats for sure.

Yeah, he doesnt play enough to get big numbers, but he probably could. This is the same problem with Pryor, they usually never play the whole game. Weve had so many blowouts that we took are starters out, and it effects stats.

As much as I love Boom and the effort he gives, he's not a big home run hitter.

He's a consistent, steady yardage running back who can make a nice cut or two. But I don't expect him to peel off any 20 yard runs on a regular basis.
I personally think he would be more in the range of an 11-1200 yard back with the featured role. Think Pittman's junior year type season.

Ohio State's Boom Herron intensifies this month
Published: Friday, November 05, 2010

COLUMBUS ? It?s November.

That can only mean one thing for the Ohio State football team.

It?s time to lower the Boom.

The Buckeyes are 6-0 in November games over the past two seasons. Running back Dan ?Boom? Herron has scored a touchdown in five of the six games and scored a total of seven touchdowns in the six wins.

Herron is the first person to admit there?s a ton of talent in the Buckeyes? backfield, talent that can pile up the yards and touchdowns. With quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who led OSU in rushing last year and is a threat to take off downfield on any play, and senior Brandon Saine, who was reincorporated into the rushing game over the past two weeks, the Buckeyes have a pair of game-breakers.

Youngsters Jaamal Berry and Carlos Hyde have put up impressive numbers, too, in their appearances. But history has shown Herron is a player who produces in November.

?You always have to be ready and prepared to run the ball, whether it?s raining or snowing or whatever it may be,? said Herron, a product of Warren Harding. ?I?m kind of used to the cold weather around this time (being from northern Ohio).?

Coach Jim Tressel said on Thursday the Buckeyes are a more balanced offense than they have been in some time. Through nine games, the Buckeyes have run for 1,906 yards and passed for 2,196.

But over the past two games, OSU?s rushing game has picked up the pace.

In a 49-0 trouncing of Purdue, OSU ran for 184 yards, with Herron running for 74 yards and two scores. Then in a 52-10 demolition of Minnesota, OSU ran for 263 yards, with Herron achieving his first career 100-yard game at OSU with 114 yards and a touchdown. Continued...

?It was a lot of fun to get one. It was a great honor to get 100 yards,? Herron said. ?Minnesota is a great team. Any time you play a Big Ten team, it?s going to be a fight.

Hahah, I am not sure either had a good offensive line, but I can not think of a year since Boom has been here have I thought wow what an awesome job our line is doing.

They played well down the stretch last season, our rb's didn't always exploit the holes either to be fair. There were times in 08 for instance were our O-line was virtually did nothing (purdue and penn state games come to mind)

Ohio State spotlight: Daniel Herron
Friday, November 12, 2010
By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

In the chicken-and-egg world of offensive football, the question must be posed: Did Ohio State's running game get stronger in recent games because Daniel Herron got better, or did Herron get better because the Buckeyes handed the ball to him more?

The answer could come today when OSU takes on the Penn State defense, which should not be confused with the porous fronts that Purdue and Minnesota threw at the Buckeyes in the previous two games.

But then, the Herron/running game renaissance started five games ago, really, and it picked up steam in the second half of the loss at Wisconsin when the Buckeyes went overland to at least be competitive that night.

Coach Jim Tressel said much of the credit should go to the offensive line, for starters.

"I think that we've grown up front with our communication (between the linemen), and we haven't had too many situations where we've had minus-yard plays," Tressel said.

Then there is Herron, who separated himself from Brandon Saine to become the featured back. In the past five games, Herron has averaged 17.4 carries and 88.4 yards. In the first four games of the season he averaged 10.5 and 46.75, respectively.

"I think Boom has raised us through his play," Tressel said. "I think his play has been excellent.

"And if he'll play (the next three games) like he did this past month and like he did last November, we have a chance this November. Because I think he's a difference-maker."
