RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

have you guys not followed any arizona game threads this season?

Whisenhunt and co. do not comprehend game management and or commitment to the run. They were up 3 scores in the 4th quarter against Jacksonville earlier this year, and inexplicably went 3 and out with 3 straight passes.

If that doesn't scream idiotic, I don't know what does....

NFL football doesn't exist just to give Ohio State players as many carries or snaps as possible.

Whisenhunt has a Superbowl ring as offensive coordinator, and took the Cardinals to within moments of winning one as a head coach.

He knows what he's doing. When Beanie learns to pass block he'll be a bigger part of the offense. Right now, the Cards are still a passing offensea because 1)The Oline isn't that great at run blocking and 2)Kurt Warner is painfully inept at handing the football off. He takes forever to hand the ball off and most the Cards run plays from under center are very predictable because Kurt tips the play off.

Beanie will get more involved when he can pass block out of the shotgun, and become a receiving threat. It's just the way the Cards offense works with Warner in place. You have to play to your strengths. It would be nice if they could run the ball, but the personnel in place is at it's best with quick hit passes.

Man, did you even watch the game? With your rant, Im guess no.

If they want to give Hightower the majority of snaps, fine. But the Cards went into half up 21-0. They get ball after half and all they do is throw, throw, throw all resulting in punts. The Cards allowed 21 points and didn't score until 2:20 to go in the game - off of a pick 6!

No one is talking about Wells lack of carries - read the last few posts - we are talking about Wisenhunt being an idiot and not running the clock with run plays. Instead he calls pass plays that consistently stopped the clock allowing Houston back in the game with more than enough time to work with. I'd rather them go three and out with run plays, because at least then they would be draining the clock forcing Houston to work quicker and possibly make mistakes.

It would be nice to see Beanie play more, but it would also be nice to see the offense as a whole run more. This is twice in a short season thus far that the Cards have allowed a team that sucks against the run, back into the game because they want to throw the rock.

LOL.

Dude. 2 possesion lead. 4th quarter with 6:30 left....3 and out with 3 straight throws. Idiotic. I understand your thinking, and I dont give a [censored] if its Tim Hightower or Beanie running the football.....but you don't do that. You just don't. It's idiotic. No rational for it. None.

I agree that Whisenhunt should be given the benefit of the doubt..he's proven himself. But it's still idiotic. Just like throwing an interception on 1st and goal from the 2 by going 5 wide against the Colts....It's just mind boggling.....mostly b/c it's Ken Whisenhunt and you'd think he'd figure out a way to make good calls. But he hasn't so far this year. Bad losses or wins that were much closer than they should have been.

Yes I did watch the game. I watch every single Cardinals game given that I've been a fan for 15 years.

They cannot run the ball with Warner at QB. If you want them to start running the ball the whole half just to chew 2 minutes off the clock and then punt, then wonderful, but that is not Whisenhunt's style. He's agressive, and he knows the strength of his team is throwing the football and he knows his defense is fully capable of blowing a 21 point lead in a hurry (as has been proven many times the last two seasons)

They lit up Houston throw the air in the first half, why would Whisenhunt have any reason to believe that wouldn't be the case in the second half??

It would be fantastic if they could run the clock out for the entire second half, but they have a line that hasn't been able to run the football for two years, and QB who is extremely slow handing the football off, and two RBs who have put the ball on the ground too much in the early goings of this season.

Your first sentence doesnt even make sense. The game was tied with 6:59 to go. I don't know what game you were watching. It was not a two possession lead with 6:30 to go.

The Colts play was idiotic, but that was Warner checking into a fade to Fitzgerald because he thought he had single coverage.

It does make sense b/c I mentioned the Jags game from earlier this year previously in the thread. Thats the game I was referencing....

The playcalling has been awful at best all year....

How does it matter who's playing QB? Any chimp can hand the ball off.

Then maybe Whisenhunt's style is stupid.

Maybe the defense blows big leads because the offense keeps giving the opposition opportunities back after 3-and-outs on pass plays.

I don't follow the Cardinals, but anyone who doesn't try to bleed the clock with a big lead late in the game and instead runs an offense almost designed to keep time on the clock for opposition needs to get a 2x4 upside his head. It applies for all levels of football, from the NFL down to pee-wee league.

They didnt have a big lead. The lead was 7 points with 12 minutes to go. Running the ball when you don't have a good track record at it, the other team is dropping a safety into the box (as stated after the game by Whisenhunt), and there is a half of football to play against a good offensive team doesn't seem like a no-brainer to me.

And if you watch Warner he has serious issues handing the ball off. It seems like a simple task, but he's incredibly slow getting the ball out from under center and into the RB's hands.

And the defense blows leads because they are poorly coached, have no pass rush, and give up huge plays.

It's awful play-calling. Let Hightower run or Beanie....who gives a shit? When you;re up late in a game like they were against the Jags, and you go 3 and out with 3 staright passing plays, it's terrible. They're afraid to run the football, and othe rteams are on to it. It makes puting games away extremly difficult b/c they become a shell of their regular attacking offense. They try and become a short route, throwing team and substitute that for running the football. Unfortuantely, incocplete passes on 3 yard outs and ins stop the clock. Jcksonville almost came back to beat Arizona for this very reason.

Explain it away all you want, but even a run for negative yards is better than an incomplete pass mid fourth quarter with a multiple possesion lead. It doesn't seem like Arizona has figured this out....they'd rather utilize the short pass for a run game. They're essentially becoming the Texas Tech of the NFL....it won't work.

Don't recall Texas Tech ever making the BCS title game, and being 2 minutes from winning a title, only to have their defense give it up.

I'd agree that it would never work, if they didnt steamroll teams with their offense in the playoffs, and tear up the vaunted Steelers defense in the fourth quarter

Except they actually utilized Hightower and James in the playoffs and late season. Why abandon it this year? I can understand a lack of faith in Beanie, but Hightower should be dependable. Utilize smart game management...it's been atrocious.

Well, TT never gets to the BCS because you play that way and expect to win out. Someone will eventually, regardless of how good the offense is, keep it close and then beat them late in the game. The Cardinals would not have been in the super bowl if you had a system like CFB does just as TT might be able to make a BCS game if they only had to got hot for 3 games.
