RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

Prep school doesn't have to be a bad thing.
Far from it...previous prep school attendees:

Larry Fitzgerald
Larry Brown
Torry Holt
Josh Howard
Vinny Testaverde
Plaxico Burress
Mel Turpin
Julian Peterson
Lesean "Shady" McCoy
Shonn Greene
Brandon Jacobs

And of course Mr. Eddie George. And the list goes on and on...he still has his whole life ahead of him to realize his potential in all areas - not just football wise. But in terms of football...there are some damn good players on that list. Do well Carlos and we'll be ecstatic to have you!

You can add Noel Devine as well...

I am not overly concerned about the Running Back situation this fall. Boom can be very effective. He was continually getting better as the season wore on. If Saine can stay health, he could be a solid contributor as well. I doubt we will see a large helping of Barry or Hall early in the season, unless we are blowing a team out early. We should be good at running back this year.

Hyde chooses Fork Union

Running back Carlos Hyde, the lone member of Ohio State's 2009 recruiting class not to qualify academically, said today he will attend and play football for Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy this fall.
He said he fully intends to record a qualifying ACT score in September and join the Buckeyes in January.
"I'm going to grind and get strong, so when I get to Ohio State, I'll be ready to go," Hyde said.
More than 70 former and current NFL players have attended Fork Union, including former OSU star back Eddie George.
In Sunday's Dispatch, we'll have more on Hyde, the 2009 running back situation, and a look at the tricky business of factoring in a kid's academic outlook in the recruiting process.

This is good news. An opportunity to experience education at an institution known for instilling self-discipline and academic excellence. Well done, Carlos. You will get a lot of benefit from this. It is not a setback but rather a chance for additional preparation for the successful college career you will have at Ohio State.

There's a couple of things I took from this; Hyde could have said f it gone to many other D1 schools after the score came out, and JT's quotes towards him and his response make me think we have a helluva coach and hopefully a Buckeye.

A prep school, like Fork Union Military Academy or Hargrave Military Academy, both in Virginia, seems like the probable destination this fall of Ohio State football recruit Carlos Hyde.

The 6-1, 235-pound running back has not yet scored high enough on the ACT to qualify to go on scholarship at Ohio State. He needs a 17 composite and various media reports have said the highest he has gotten in several attempts is a 15.

If Hyde reaches 17, the plan now is for him to enroll at Ohio State in January, though there is no guarantee he will ever get to Columbus.

The next time he could take the ACT is Sept. 12.

He could have said f it and gone to Michigan with no problem.

Speaking to a former attendee of Hargrove, he said all they do is get up early am do PT, then take ACT/SAT' style test, practice football and do it all over the next day. The way he described it there was no way you couldn't improve your score because you worked on it so much. If I recall right, my friend raised his score quickly and was only there a few months.
