RB Brandon "Zoom" Saine (official thread)

2011 combine workout: Brandon Saine - NFL Network

Brandon Saine ran a 4.42 and a 4.40, besting his 4.43 from the combine. Said he can't change anything that's on film, but felt the 40 time jibes with his football speed. He said he hasn't noticed anything different in the mood around the WHAC since the Jim Tressel situation. Said he was surprised that it happened, but he still has faith in everybody.

Ohio State RB Brandon Saine helped himself by running a 4.40 in the 40, which is impressive for an athlete with his size (5-11?, 220). Not only did he do well in the running back drills, but he also helped himself by going through the wideout drills and caught the ball well. His versatility, combined with his size/speed combination, will likely convince a team to take him late in the draft.

UPDATE: Another reported addition to the roster will be Ohio State running back Brandon Saine. His representatives Tweeted that he had agreed to terms with the Packers.

In four seasons with the Buckeyes, the 5-11, 220-pound running back rushed 301 times for 1,408 yards (4..4 average) and nine touchdowns. He also caught 55 passes for 616 yards and eight touchdowns.

Saine ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds at the scouting combine and registered a vertical jump of 34 1/2 inches.

The Green Bay Packers started calling Brandon Saine’s camp in the middle of April’s NFL Draft, saying they hoped to acquire the former Ohio State and Piqua High School running back.

The draft passed without Saine being picked and the continuance of the NFL lockout prevented a deal soon after.

“They kept saying, 'Marco, we want him to be a Packer,’ ” said Marco Marciano, Saine’s agent with XL Sports Management.

It happened Tuesday. An undrafted free agent, Saine signed a three-year contract with the reigning Super Bowl champions and flew from Columbus to Green Bay, Wis., to immediately begin digesting the team’s playbook.

It’s a playbook that because of Saine’s speed (4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash), size (6 feet, 220 pounds) and flexibility in rushing or catching passes should earn him some on-field time, Marciano said.

“(The Packers) said they’re designing plays for Brandon to isolate him against linebackers and take advantage of his size and speed,” Marciano said. “He can create some mismatches.”

Of the 15 undrafted free agents the Packers recently signed, which of them do you feel can make the biggest impact for the Packers?

I?d be lying if I told you I knew all of them, but there are a few I know. Brandon Saine immediately jumps out at me, which is why we used a picture of him to go with the story we posted. He?s got some size and speed, but what I like most about him in the Packers? scheme is that Saine can catch the ball. Shaky Smithson of Utah is a big-time kick-returner. He might provide competition for Randall Cobb. Tori Gurley of South Carolina is a big, possession-type receiver, and I think we all know how much Mike McCarthy likes big receivers. Anthony Bratton was an ultra-productive and dependable safety at Delaware.
