Delande bids to land spot with Buckeyes

Hilliard Davidson graduate Bo Delande is a candidate for the Ohio State football team after leading the Wildcats to the Division I state championship last fall. He's the son of Ohio Valley natives Dave Delande and Stephanie Miller Delande.​
The son of Ohio Valley natives is an Ohio State University football prospect.

Bo Delande -- who led Hilliard Davidson to the Division I Ohio state football championship this past year -- has been tabbed a preferred walk-on with the Buckeyes. Delande -- a workhorse running back for Davidson scored the game-winning two-point conversion to beat Mentor in the state finals.

"Coach Dick Tressel (OSU running back coach) said the team is thin at running back, so that is where I get my first chance," Bo said. "Then I may move to strong safety later on."

How is the team "thin at running back"? I was thinking that if anything, we seem deep. (I'm obviously not trying to argue with the running backs coach here lol, I'm just looking for explaination.)

I'm sure he meant thin in terms of experience, meaning all the young guys will get much more of a look than in years past.

I would love to see Delande make an impact. He was such a great player to watch at Davidson.

Bo also went to State for Hilliard Davidson at 189 in Wrestling. He won his first match. Lost his second to runner up Dan Canfield & then was eliminated by 5th place finisher Samson from Tol. Whitmer.

I actually have wrestled and know Bo...great to see he is walking on. He was excellent for Davidson this year. Great to see a star player on a a high caliber team walk-on for us.

I doubt he's ever going to play here as a running back, but he might contribute at another posistion or on special teams. In any case congrats to this kid on living the dream and putting on the scarlet and gray. I bet he had some scholarship offers and to turn them down to come here as a walk on says a lot about his desire to be a Buckeye football player, I wish him nothing but the best.

Until the freshmen get here and actually put on pads, we are still thin at running back. Who knows how those freshmen will pan out. We are all pretty excited about having them come in but sometimes surefire athletes just dont make like Mike D'Andrea for example. Anything can happen. When we want "a pair and a spare" thats talking about for gameday Saturday's. We still need other running backs for practice as well. I'd say 6 tailbacks and 3 or 4 fullbacks is pretty necessary for what we want to accomplish. The more the merrier especially when they don't cost us a scholarship.

Bo Delande was a star running back at Hilliard Davidson and he will join Ohio State as a preferred walk-on this fall. Delande led Hilliard Davidson to the 2006 Division I state championship and he rushed for over 2,200 yards and 25 touchdowns for the season. Delande could have went the small-school route, but wanted to be a Buckeye. Dave Biddle has more.

From watching Hilliard Davidson this past season, it was easy to see that Bo Delande WAS Hilliard's team. He was probably 95% of their offense which led them to a state championship title in one of the most competative high school football states in the country. That is a lot to be said, and even though Bo may not have the best numbers as far as size and 40-time, I think the Buckeyes are getting a great player who will eventually contribute.
