THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The words came haltingly, pulled from deep down. "My father ...," was all Ohio State junior running back Antonio Pittman could manage before the emotions welled up, forcing him to pause. The crowd gathered in the Akron Buchtel High School gym on this January day applauded, encouraging Pittman to continue.

Pittman prepares to parlay his skills
Buckeye runner excited pro scouts

ASSOCIATED PRESS

COLUMBUS - Antonio Pittman wavered at first: Return to Ohio State for his senior year or jump to the pros and support his family?
"My mind was going through a lot of things: Stay. Go. Stay. Go," the tailback said. "And then once I finally made it 100 percent sure that I was going to leave, I had to dedicate myself to the weight room, studying film, and the long hours that it took to prepare for this."

COLUMBUS ? Antonio Pittman may never have been fully appreciated at Ohio State while playing in the shadow of Troy Smith and Ted Ginn Jr., but the running back from Akron has become highly valued by the NFL since leaving school after his junior year.
Pittman, who rushed for more than 1,200 yards in two straight seasons, has been shooting up draft boards after running the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds at the NFL Combine in February.

Alright man you don't have to laugh at me. :)

I'm still in shock that they gave up that much for Quinn who probably won't be able to help them for years....

And now back to Antonio. Here's hoping he goes to some team I can tolerate in the 2nd round!

Like the Bengals?

Or the Steelers?

This has got to be very hard for Pittman to be watching.

All the questions about whether he should go, or should he stay, they all resolved down to these issues.
Could he be assured of a high enough draft pick coming out in his Junior year?
Could he really help himself elevate the draft position into a high (round 1, round 2) by staying?
Was there simply too much competition at the Running Back position this year?
The answer to the first is maybe a different one than he expected or wanted to hear.
The answer to the second was always uncertain for various reasons (competition with Wells in Columbus, history of NFL teams looking to get RBs in round 2 and lower).
The answer to the third is a beauty in the eye issue. Sadly, it looks like a lot of people had Antonio rated below the 2nd round - and had needs at RB.

Still, all Antonio needs is a solid chance - and there are rounds to go here.

Frankly, I'm not sure what he was thinking about when he decided to turn pro. I would have been shocked if anybody took him before Round 3. His body of work and measurables didn't support anything in the first 2 rounds. When I look at him, I think more Derek Combs or Pepe Pearson or Michael Wiley than I do Eddie George or Robert Smith.
