Ravi Bellamkonda, tOSU President

Well, he certainly exhibited how to turn a tryst into moneytization. PS, on another note, wonder how the new Prez will react to the money spent by the Athletic Department. Even though it's a 'profit/cost center', and self-sustaining, he's an academic at heart, so wonder if he'll try to snake some more into education.....PSS, used to be that the Athletic department would 'give' $20-30 million a year to the academic side of the house. Does anyone know whether that still happens, or no.

The twitter feeds about this appointment are full of blatant racism. Embarrassing Ohio State internationally.
Is it really an embarrassment to Ohio State that some inbred retards who have zero connection to the university are being toxic on social media. I think it's more an indictment of American society overall and how the worst among us feel they have permission to spew their toxicity.

I've been disgusted at some of the things I've read on social media about this appointment. Judging from his Bio, Bellamkonda is better qualified than several of our last few leaders. ( time will tell how he navigates today's political climate ). I only hope that as you said, most of these racist hilljack chucklefucks are people with no connection to OSU.

The chucklefucks won't give a shit if the teams are winning. But I think that this is a good hire. He won't be a sport jock sniffer, but he needs to know that is what sells the brand nationwide. That is not the most important aspect to his job though. Academics need to be raised up across the board. Focus on what brings in revenue and helps make tOSU a better public University. Rename the medical center (my hot take).

I'm not sure how, but the Schott is in prime real estate territory and needs revamped in some manner. Turn it into another Larkins center for students or similar sports (Make it the ice hockey arena for both teams. And during the offseason, it can be a training center. Switching over from an ice rink to a different floor is a pain in the ass.)

And get something akin to a stand alone basketball/volleyball arena (A new St. John Arena). Concerts can go downtown or to the Newport.

I think he'll treat athletics like every president except Gee. He'll leave it alone provided it doesn't lose money or force his involvement with any scandals.

What I find funny about the racist backlash to him is that our last two white male Presidents both had to be shown the door. The black guy and the lesbian did exceptionally well. The former left after his initial contract was up for the top job in public higher ed (arguably the top job in all of higher ed), and the latter was doing extremely well until she decided she didn't want to deal with the bullshit from Wexner and his wife.

I think he'll be much more interested in moving the university forward academically than Slapshot was. I don't blame Slapshot for that 9K freshman class (and he did get it down to around 8300 last year), but that needs to continue. Cut the acceptance rate from 50% to 40% over the next couple of years and get freshman classes into the 7000-7500 range.

Any guesses on whether OSU having smaller freshman classes will have a ripple effect on other Ohio universities? Basically, will OSU taking fewer kids help some of the other schools bump up their enrollment numbers?

It should. Of course some of them will opt for a branch campus and wait their turn, but there should be some trickle down of more kids who don't get into OSU being available for Fredo, OU, UC and the others. We should actually cut a deal with them to get some things we want in return for freeing up a thousand kids for the system to absorb.

The 9K class was essentially admissions underestimating what our yield would be right after COVID and dipping a bit lower into the applicant pool to compensate. As it turned out, yield held steady so we ended up with an additional thousand kids. Still, the freshman class profile stayed the same--didn't improve but at least held steady. With the drop down to 8300, it once again showed a steady rise. At 7500 or below, we should put some space between us and Wiscy and Illinois lagging only behind Northwestern, tcun, UCLA and USC in admissions selectivity.
