Some sort of regulation just makes sense.
"Self regulation" is letting the fox watch the chicken house.
Can big business be trusted to do the right thing?

The best regulation would be to change the legal definition (and value) of a pet from merely its "replacement cost" to one where punitive damages could be levied by a jury. Watch the pet food industry seriously self-regulate itself then.
