Randy Edsall (HC UConn Huskies)

What happened to my ¤cash?
Last week, University of Connecticut head football coach Randy Edsall pulled a verbal scholarship offer to Ryan Dickens, a high school senior, with just 17 days left in the college recruitment process. Since then, several media sources have described Randy Edsall's conduct as "dishonorable." However, Randy Edsall and the University of Connecticut's conduct may have been far worse than that. By rescinding a verbal scholarship offer to a student at the very last minute -- especially after purportedly unambiguous reassurances -- the UConn football coach may have even exposed his university to the reasonable risk of civil liability.

Interesting take on pulling a scholie.

Randy Edsall: Rebuilding UConn football harder because players ‘aren’t as mentally tough’ as before

Building UConn’s football program has been more difficult than it was in the early 2000s, coach Randy Edsall said Tuesday, in part because of the mentality of current players.

“We did it before, and we’re working to do it again," Edsall said. "And it’s hard. And it’s harder now than what it was then because our generation has changed, society has changed.”

Edsall spent much of his weekly press conference Tuesday explaining what he sees as challenges of coaching today’s college students, who he said “aren’t as mentally tough and as mentally strong because they’ve never been put in [tough] situations."

“Stop being on your phone all the time, stop playing Fortnite, go to bed early at night” Edsall said. “Because guess what, when you leave here, you go in the real world you better do that because otherwise you won’t be successful."

At one point Tuesday, the coach was asked whether he had to “baby-sit” players.

“I wouldn’t call it baby-sitting, I would call it teaching life lessons," Edsall said. "Because a lot of these kids have no idea about life’s lessons.”

In Edsall’s view, some players today are too interested in being "liked,” as opposed to being respected.

“I don’t have the [Alfred] Finchers, the [Dan] Orlovskys, the [Ryan] Krugs, the [Tyler] Lorenzens, the Donald Browns," Edsall said, naming former players. "They didn’t care what their teammates thought of them. Too many kids now-a-days wanted to be liked. They don’t understand it’s about respect.”

Edsall said 21 players were required to participate in rigorous “opportunity workouts” Tuesday morning as a result of missing class.

Ah, so that would explain the drop in quality across the board in college football. Oh wait, I’m being told dozens of coaches manage to field quality, competitive teams with no issues in their locker rooms and that almost all teams manage to be better than 1-6.

Maybe Randy Edsall is just an asshole loser making excuses? I am shocked that he struggles to attract quality players to his school with his failings and his scapegoating of said players for those failings.

19 UConn Players Have Entered The Transfer Portal While Randy Edsall Appears To Have Forgotten How Recruiting Works

UConn had themselves a bad season, finishing 2-10 with wins over UMass and FCS Wagner. In times like this, you'd hope that your program was building towards a winning program. Maybe your team is young and showed potential. Players will continue to get older and more recruits will come in. However, that is not the case for UConn as 19 players have left the program for the transfer portal:

That has to be some form of a record. I can't even think of one team that retained it's coach and saw 19 players leave in one offseason.

On top of that, their recruiting class for 2020 isn't looking too hot either:
