At his peak he was the voice of football for a generation...and he was a pretty good player too. RIP.

He was always one I could listen to. Between his voice and knowledge it was always nice to hear him calling games.

In addition to being a very good announcer, he was an excellent field-goal kicker for the New York Giants. In fact, he was so good that he cost my beloved Browns the chance at the NFL championship in 1958. RIP Pat

Quality sports announcer.

Rarely if ever did he inject his personal agenda.

I can't remember his commentary being overbearing or taking over the game.

Compared to many today who wish to make news instead of reporting news and commentary during a contest it was highly preferable.
