Losing My Religion is probably my favorite R.E.M. song. A quick check of the MP3 player here shows I've got 13 loaded up. I think iTunes has 20 or so at home.

I just checked my computer after reading this: 691 R.E.M. songs on there for me. All the official releases and 16 more bootlegs.

Really not too disappointed in losing the band/music, more disappointed that the one time I had the opportunity to see them was last year during one of the busiest weeks at work, the July 4th week.

I guess had I known this was coming I would have gone too. I saw them five times prior to and including the Green tour. Never saw them after that again but wish I did.

Looking forward to the Hindu Love Gods reunion tour... oh... wait... never mind.

My favorite band of all time is calling it quits. I can't say I'm devastated. They haven't released anything essential since Bill Berry left the band. However, the last couple releases were pretty solid. I can now look forward to countless re-releases, re-masters, unreleased tracks and live material shamelessly milking every last cent they can get out of their fans. They've already gotten a nice head start on this kind of stuff.

All the IRS releases will forever be among my favorite albums ever. Until the first lucrative re-union tour, farewell to the greatest American rock-n-roll band of all time - IMHO.

Not wasting any time:

Ptichfork: R.E.M. to Release Greatest Hits Album

On the heels of their breakup announcement, the newly disbanded R.E.M. will put out yet another greatest hits compilation. Consequence of Sound points to an Amazon listing that the band's publicist confirms is accurate: the comp will be called Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage: 1982-2011 and it'll be released on November 15 via Warner Bros.
