Question(s) for Christians

and multiply,

and replenish the earth, and subdue it:
He certainly did the latter, the former was not done with babies, though the scenario was a little different than if Eve wasn't in the mood :p

and have dominion over the fish of the sea
A technicality but I think it at least falls under 'plausible' by Mythbusters standards :p

My problem with welfare is that it is the government taking my money against my will, and doing with it what I don't think the government should be doing. If I want someone to have my money, then I give it to him. And I'm happy to do that. But I don't like the government forcing me to give money.

I don't know what, exactly, that has to do with being Christian. Of course, I don't read the bible. Maybe the 11th commandment says "Thou shalt create governments which force the peoples to give money to other peoples".

Well... wouldn't that hold true for anyone who has a complaint about what the gov. buys? I mean, doesn't your logic give instant credibility to the argument "I don't want my taxes to pay for the war machine, if I wanted to support the military I'd give them my money"

Don't get me wrong, we don't have to like what the gov. buys simply because they decided to buy it (ie implement a program like welfare, or sustain the post office, etc.) and I certainly don't think you have to agree it's money well spent.

Incidentally, the 11th Commandment is: There shall be BKB, and he shall be every man.

Just sayin.....

Genesis 1:28

"Be fruitful and multiply" Google hit #1

Granted, the site quoted seems to be making the argument as it relates to homosexuality - but it is based on the same "command" to reproduce in an effort to please G-d's will. Whatever the case, it's pretty clear Jesus did not multiply and "failed" to achieve said objective.

um, that's not Mosiac Law, which didn't exist until, well, Moses. about 2000 years later.

I'm sorry, I thought you asked for a cite to the Torah.

Methinks the semantics game has reached its toll, and has become rather tiresome.

This is especially in light of the fact that Leviticus and Deuteronomy are primarily composed of prohibitions. Seeing as though "be fruitful and multiply" is not a prohibition, it becomes difficult to elucidate the situation except for one minor (yet potent) consideration: the manifold prohibitions that deal with marriage, child-rearing, property, lineage, etc. Thus, we have a picture of subsequent prohibitions based on a particular foundation. Which, in essence, brings a previous/historical commandment into the fore of Moses' writings.

I agree that we don't have to like what the government is spending money on. I'm sure that we could find people pretty easily who would love to not pay taxes on the percentage that is going to fund the military. Or any other budget item that the government is funding, for that matter. But there's a difference between not wanting to pay those taxes, and not paying those taxes. One is wanting to hold on to more money (regardless of the excuses), and the other is illegal (regardless of whether the law is "just" - but that's another topic, for another forum).

Why do people always concentrate on what the gov does that they don't like rather than what the gov does that they benefit from like roads and infrastructure? Like guaranteeing our individual rights? Like securing the national defense? I think it's just natural(easier?) for people to be whiny bitches rather than take personal responsibility for their lives.
End of rant, back to more religious questions. :tongue2:
