Question regarding the 2010 tOSU class

Spartan

Junior
It appears you will only have 15 scholarships to give at this point, and with 4 taken, there are only 11 left to give.

If factual, this bodes very well for Dantonio and MSU who continue to recruit Ohio hard.

You can't take them all, but based on need which players to you see from Ohio staying in state to play at tOSU based on need?

If you are targeting DBs and LBers, you may be in luck.

Right now, we can take 15. Don't be surprised if four or more scholarships open up due to transfers, career-ending injuries, problems off the field, or guys leaving early for the NFL draft. Most recruitniks are figuring we'll have around 20 scholarships to give come around signing day.

Heck, this past year alone, we had three guys leave early for the NFL (Beanie, Hartline, D.Washington).

MSU bodes well every year based upon OSU offers. There will be A LOT of talented players that never see an offer based on scholarship numbers.

I'd imagine Ohio will be heavily contetsed this year, but good luck in 2011. Things open back up with a heavy class of graduating players. It really is amazing that coach Tressel has established such a national recruiting base. tOSU has a shot with almost every player they offer, and Im not sure that was always the case. The ability to reach for national prospects vs. in state prospects has elevated the recruiting classes each year for Ohio State.

When looking over the roster, I can't imagine anyone leaving early for the NFL draft in '09 / 10 - the first time in a while. It seems like we are always worried about someone.

Chekwa is a definite possibility. I could also see Gibson or Heyward finally have a breakout year and leaving early.

Here are some Big Ten caliber prospects who have interest in Michigan State and probably will not receive offers from Ohio State:

RB Andre Givens (Hubbard) (MSU offer)
WR Anthony Schrock (Wadsworth)
TE Dan Schneider (Avon Lake)
OL Andrew Donnal (Whitehouse Anthony Wayne) (MSU offer)
OL Matt Rotheram (North Olmsted) (MSU offer)
OL Skyler Schofner (Johnstown Monroe)
OL Taylor Miller (Trenton Edgewood)
OL Christian Pace (Avon Lake)
DL Davion Rogers (Warren G. Harren) (MSU offer)
LB Jewone Snow (Canton McKinley) (MSU offer)
LB Jayrone Elliott (Cleveland Glenville) (MSU offer)
DB Mike Dorsey (Warren G. Harding)
ATH Kurtis Drummond (Hubbard) (MSU offer)

Also, if RB Erick Howard (North Canton Hoover) can't make it into Ohio State, then Michigan State would be a good alternative for him. DB's LaTwan Anderson (Lakewood St. Edward) and Christian Bryant (Cleveland Glenville) would be good possibilities for Michigan State (the Spartans have offered both of them) if they don't get offers from Ohio State.

Spartan,

Something new to add to the equation. U of Cincy is starting to make their mark on Ohio; thus some of them may opt for them instead of heading out of state; especially if they can keep Kelly at the helm. As it is, I would much rather see recruits go to MSU rather than UM, ND,SoCal or any SEC school. Good luck and may God bless ! :oh:

I was just about to post these exact three players, with the same reasoning. If Chimdi has a solid year and makes first-string all-conference and makes some AA lists (even as honorable mention) I'd expect to see him bail. Thad or Cam would have to have a monster year, but if either or both did, the chances of them "striking while the iron's hot" is fairly good. Other than those three, I don't see anyone even remotely likely of leaving early.

Of course last year at this time I did not expect Hartline or Washington to go either.

Did a little digging along these lines...

BuckeyeXtra - The Columbus Dispatch : Early OSU draft entrants

As the link says, 27 Buckeyes have left early for the draft, and 18 of them have went 1st round. That leaves 9 that were not 1st round picks. As it follows:

2nd round: 1
3rd round: 4
4th round: 4

Since 1990, when the early-entrance was first allowed, OSU has had 27 underclassmen drafted, and all 27 were no-worse than the 4th round.

Ernest Shazor, anyone? :slappy:

Don't be surprised if we have 2 or 3 more of those players have that type of season, and follow the lead.. We are loaded to no end, after all... :)

Schofner committed to Cinci didn't he?

I do like Anderson, Rotheram, Donnal, Snow and Rogers.

On the fence on Givens, his speed is outstanding, his size concerns me at RB.

Ohio is heating up with Kelly throwing his gut around the state, and our dear friend Rich Rod selling his snake oil everywhere he can.

I'm confident Dantonio will continue to make his mark in Ohio, and pull 3-4 players you want but can't take due to numbers.

MSU will likely fight more with Rich Rod in Ohio for recruits more than we do in MI every year. Outside of Cass Tech HS in Detroit, Dantonio is kicking his butt in MI, Rich Rod has hardly any interest in the players in MI, that alone will help MSU rebuild. What we saw in the 2009 class was not a fluke.

Thanks for your insight, and our common hatred of Rich Rod and that program and it's arrogant fanbase.

Shazor revolutionized OSU football:biggrin:

I will say this to the Spartan. Dantonio is one hell of a coach. He knows alot of coaches in Ohio. He has already attacked Ohio and will probably get 7-8 players from the state. If he recruits Michigan like he did last year and adds 7-8 of the guys on the list above and he will have a top 25 class. I would rather these guys go to MSU than UM...I hope UM strikes out in Ohio on defensive players...they can have another 10 slot WR's and RB's.
