not yet, she has a followup with the ENT guy today @ 330. She had drainage from the right ear yesterday and they said that could be a sign that the right ear drum has ruptured as well. i swear you would never know that she has anything wrong with her, she seems like a normal baby. it broke my heart when the told us that she could have just felt pain from the time she was born and its just normal to her now.

we had the follow up with the ENT guy today. my daughter has no hearing in her left ear and less than 10% in the right ear. she has to have the tubes put in next thursday and all the dr. can tell us is that it "might" restore her hearing. FUCK! I'm so stressed and pissed and now i have to wait another week to know whats really going to happen. I mean, I know it could be worse but she has so many other things going on that she doesn't deserve this too (lactose, sacral dimple, and a growth in her girl parts that has to be checked by a urologist). she is such a happy and great baby, this just doesn't seem fair. i'm sorry to come on and just seem like i'm dumping a wad of shit, but i'm so upset right now that i just need to "talk" about it.

The tubes are a good thing, both my kids had them. No problems. Relieving the pressure inside her eardrum should help the pain and her hearing. Good luck to you and her. I really hate when young kids have these kind of problems. Here's a wish for all to go well.

My son has had tubes 2x.

Very easy procedure, and yes, you need to keep water out of the ears.

I've found the easiest way to do this when washing their hair is to wet their hair with a washcloth, then rinse it as best you can with a wash cloth. This gives you better control of where the water goes (and doesn't go).

Also, (indelicate but very important) keep a journal of how her diaper looks when it's changed. Seriously. Multiple rounds of antibiotics can so totally wreck a child's gut flora (the bacteria that are SUPPOSED to live there) that they end up with problems that last for YEARS. My son still gets yeast/fungus infections in his intestines. They are not fun.

If she does develop problems with her gut, you may want to supplement with probiotics for awhile to boost the "good" flora. You have to mix them with Tofutti "Ice Cream" (since your child can't do milk products either) or the kids won't touch them, but they help alot.

thanks for the advice! We'll keep an eye open. My wife is in the medical field (ultrasound) and her mother is a nurse so they are both very good about paying attention to stuff that i wouldn't think of - if it doesnt' plug in, i dont know too much about it.



oh yeah, i forgot to include that she has a heart murmur which caused us to spend 3 hours in the ER tonight. she had repeat blood work done today and her calcium level was raised - which could mean heart problems, so we went to the children's hospital and had an EKG and repeated the blood work, everything looked "better" but she has a follow up with her heart DR on Tuesday.

well, we are headed out in about 20 minutes to get the surgery done. we have to be there at 6am and the surgery is at 8. from what everyone has said/told us the procedure is quick (15-20 minutes) and the DR told us that we should be out of there around noon as long as there aren't any complications
