Some of you have noticed that the political forum has derailed a bit, and the nonsense and petty bickering from in there has managed to pollute other areas of the site to some degree.
I just wanted to take a second to assure all of you that we're aware of it, and that a solid group of people have tasked themselves with the responsibility of getting it all back under control. We will do what we have to do to maintain a certain quality of life here at BP.
I had a stray thought earlier today. The Olympics were on, and some nutcase was talking about how the difficulty of a certain routine determines the max score a gymnast can get. So Olympian 1 may have a medium-difficulty routine and can only get 9.4 max. Olympian 2 may have a higher difficulty routine and can get a 10.0 max. But both have an equal potential to screw up and get a 6.0. I consider BP a site that can achieve a 10.0 based on potential and degree of difficulty (when you allow that we challenge ourselves by allowing relatively unrestricted discourse on basically any subject), and (not with anyone in particular in mind, honest) I see other sites that can do at best 8.0 or the like. Despite that, we're equally capable of slogging along at a 4.0, and if problems and specific people here were left unchecked, that might be the direction we're heading in. I'm not going to let that happen, neither is anyone else, so we're going to pull things back up to the higher end of the scoring scale, and we're going to get back to being representative of what a great OSU online community should look like.
I want to openly call for more active community participation in this effort. There's always room for good debate, but let's try and collectively be above petty bullshit. Let's police ourselves. Right now, every hour I dedicate to dealing with stuff like this, is an hour taken directly from the final phases of the stats engine development effort. We're so close there, and I have to say that this thing exceeds even my expectations. I want it up on the site so badly I can taste it.
We are *18* days away from the first game of the season. Everyone take a deep breath, and rejoice in the fact that another great season of Buckeye football is upon us. Let's *all* make BP the best community online, regardless of scope.
