QB1 Will Howard (National Champion, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Agree that this is a bummer. Waaay too early to tell, but many a QB has had a lucrative career as a back-up in the league. Would certainly hope that Will gets a shot somewhere as a starter, but the pyramid gets smaller the higher one goes. But count me in the group that believes he's gonna do something in the NFL.....

'The Way He Throws It Is Different': Will Howard Praises Ohio State's Julian Sayin

The "Big Noon Kickoff" crew brought some serious championship pedigree to the set ahead of the massive Week 1 clash between No. 1 Texas and No. 3 Ohio State.

Former Buckeye quarterback Will Howard, fresh off a national title run last season, and Texas legend Vince Young, who famously led the Longhorns to a national championship victory over USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl Game, joined the show to talk about the must-see matchup and the two young quarterbacks set to define it.

Howard, who is now set to embark on his rookie season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is all-in on Ohio State first-year starter Julian Sayin.

"I’m telling you, this kid — he’s got it," Howard said. "I'm excited to see him go out there and just let it rip. He’s a super-talented kid."

Howard, who has a cannon of an arm himself, was quick to credit Sayin's arm strength and his ability to spin the football, something Buckeye fans hope to see on full display Saturday against the top-ranked Longhorns.

The way he throws the ball is different," Howard said of Sayin. "I know he’s got it all in there, and I’m just excited to watch him go do it."

This is very much worth talking to ND friends (if you have any) about.

As a theoretical exercise of course, not to rub a dump truck worth of salt in the wound.

You looked at Riley Leonard and said, "yep, that's the guy" AND were sneaky dicks about it. Keep that in mind the next time you feel a twinge of pity for a former Buckeye turned Domer coach.

What a 3 1/2 hour long dong punch it must have been for the ND braintrust to watch their fuckup unfold like that.

Somewhat interesting.....I think A-Rod has a relatively short leash right now with how the offense has looked last few weeks. I think Howard impressed enough prior to injury that he'd likely get first look ahead of Mason Rudolph who has shown what he's capable of.

A bit sad that they dropped Sermon at the same time, though. I still think Howard can be successful in the NFL.

Jon Gruden Says Steelers Rookie QB is a Steal

Former NFL head coach Jon Gruden is a big fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers' rookie signal caller.

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Will Howard is on the team's 53-man roster after being activated from the reserve/injured list, and while there's essentially zero expectations for him this season, former NFL head coach Jon Gruden is bullish on what his future in the league holds.

"I love Will Howard. I'm thankful that he is up. I'm shocked that he's gonna be on the bench much longer," Gruden said on 93.7 The Fan, per Steelers Depot's Josh Carney. "I just think he has everything that you'e looking for. We won a Super Bowl with Brad Johnson. He's got that prototype size I like. He's 6-4, he's 225, 230. He's built like a horse. I mean, he's a big guy [who] can run the ball. You can run the quarterback power plays and all these quarterback draws that everybody likes to run.

"He can keep it on the zone read. He's an accurate passer."

"He's a winner, man. This guy's a winner. He won big at Kansas State, they won the Big 12. He won the national title. He was the wow factor," Gruden said. "He's got a photographic memory. He's a great communicator. I'll be shocked if he's not one hell of an NFL quarterback, and I told a couple of my friends in Pittsburgh, I told [general manager] Omar Khan, 'I can't believe you got him in [the] sixth round."
