QB1 Julian Sayin (National Champion)

I think back to the game thread from last year when Sayin came in and bounced a short pass to a receiver. Some in the thread were very critical. I find that amusing when you look at him now.
I’ve got like 9 brain cells left. I can’t afford to spend them on that kind of recall.

His placement is like nothing I've ever seen in college. We hear all about the Big2 receivers making him look good, but that absolutely goes both ways. Far more often than not the ball is right where it's supposed to be. They're obviously capable of acrobatic catches and have made them when they've had to, it just doesn't happen very often.

Following Day's appearance, Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin hopped on the microphone with Paul Keels and Jim Lachey.

Julian Sayin

On his first season as Ohio State’s starter

  • “It’s been fun just developing and getting more comfortable in the offense.”
  • “We’re still striving and still chasing the best version of ourselves.”
  • “We’re trying to get better every week.”

On what he learned from Ohio State’s leadership last season

  • “It was awesome to see those veteran leaders last year.”
  • “I took so much from them, from a leadership standpoint, from a preparation standpoint.”
  • Sayin called Will Howard “a pro” and said he learned a lot from him last season.

On Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate

  • “Those guys are special players. Having them on the outside, it’s definitely exciting as a quarterback.”
  • Sayin said everyone needs to do their job on offense, from him, to the running backs, the offensive line, the tight ends and wide receivers.
  • “We need everyone to do their part, but those guys are special players.”

On Ohio State’s quarterback development

  • “Coach Day, he’s a really good quarterback coach for us. He teaches us a lot. We take so much from him. He’s hard on us, but we wouldn’t want it any other way.”
  • “Coach (Billy) Fessler, Coach (Brian) Hartline, they do a really good job with us.”
  • “We’re still getting better each week.”

On Ohio State’s defense

  • Sayin said Ohio State “is a very challenging defense to play against.”
  • “Coach P does a great job with that defense.”
  • “They give us some complex looks.”
  • “It’s a very good defense to play against. It makes it hard on us.”

To be fair, last year he was the size of a 14-yo girl, and didn’t have the strength to throw all the way to the sideline. With another year of strength training, he’s the size of a 16-yo girl and can throw the ball much farther.

He's like that kid from the old movie "Rookie of the Year". Where a child gets in an accident and can pitch in the major leagues. There is something genetically wrong with that right arm, its not natural. To quick, to accurate, and to strong.

74% Hmmmm did Sayin just dump the Heisman?

Just sayin': Well Mendoza (statistically) did have the more impressive game this weekend, i.e. 22/24, 299 yards, 4 TDs, and 0 Ints. However, concerning The Heisman, here is what I believe will happen and previously posted it in the UCLA game thread:

It could all come down to which QB looks better Sayin or Mendoza (head to head) in the B1G CCG. The B1G CCG could be "winner take all", i.e. the B1G Championship, #1 seed in the CFPs, and The Heisman Trophy, etc.

It’s weird how being borderline perfect throughout the season makes a “solid” outing look so much worse than it actually is.

I’m sure there are some misses and whatnot he’ll see on film and have plenty to take from it. My hope is that Inniss earned some of his trust today and in 3WR sets he leverages him for chunk yardage down the road.

Ohio State QB Julian Sayin was nearly hurt against UCLA on a play that is illegal in the NFL

The NCAA may want to make this play against the rules after Julian Sayin was nearly hurt.

Julian Sayin was a victim of the hip-drop tackle against UCLA

The 2025 NFL season is the first in which the league has outlawed the “hip-drop tackle” due to the injuries it has caused. A hip-drop tackle occurs when a defender wraps up a ball carrier and drops their hips to the ground to bring the player down. It’s dangerous because defenders often land on the ball carrier’s legs or ankles during the motion. In the first half against UCLA, Sayin was brought down with that style of tackle and came up limping.

Julian Sayin eases the mind of Buckeye Nation with an update on his injury scare that happened in the win over UCLA

Julian Sayin had a brief moment where he limped off the field in Ohio State’s win over UCLA in Week 12.

Julian Sayin provides positive update on what appeared to be an ankle or foot injury

Ohio State’s starting quarterback made a trip to the injury tent on Saturday after coming up limping from a hit on third down in the first half. Sayin appeared to land awkwardly and was checked out briefly before returning to the game.

“Just ended up stepping on it a little bit weird, but I’m feeling good now,” Sayin said after the game. “Not too bad, just stepped on it a little bit weird.”

Just sayin': The hip drop tackle should be illegal in college football too.
