QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Pryor has Raider crazies in his corner

The Raiders, unlike the Giants, don't have a lunatic fringe.

The Raiders have a sanity fringe. That prudent group would like head coach Dennis Allen to start Matt Flynn at quarterback and stay with him. It's the safe, traditional course of action. Flynn has conventional skills, potentially is a sound game-manager. And you want stability, right?

Wrong, says the lunatic core. Those folks want Terrelle Pryor. They want two things Raiders fans haven't had much of in recent years: hope and excitement.

Friday in New Orleans, when Flynn took five sacks early, looking shaky behind a leaky offensive line, Raiders fans were blowing up Twitter, clamoring for Pryor. In came Pryor, who went 1-for-5 passing, for 9 yards.

Suddenly, from those tweeting Raiders fans: crickets.

It's going to be a roller-coaster ride in Raiderland, folks. Flynn will start, but Allen said of Pryor, "He will play." That's Allen being either bold and creative, or indecisive and desperate. Or merely pragmatic. Or all five of those things.

I asked Allen on Sunday if he might go with a nontraditional quarterback setup, bringing Pryor off the bench in situational or relief roles.

"I think we've said all along we want to be able to have a package of plays Terrelle is real comfortable in," Allen said. "In answer to your question, I don't know what's traditional or nontraditional. We're going to put the guys out there we think give us the best chance to have success."

NAPA -- The big surprise as the Raiders began their 19th and final practice of training camp Wednesday was the sight of quarterback Terrelle Pryor wearing No. 2.

Olson adding more wrinkles for Pryor

Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson said Tuesday he is still trying to figure out all the ways he can use backup quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Oakland is committed to getting him on the field this season in red-zone and other packages, and Pryor said he enjoys lining up in the Pistol.

Pryor was 6-for-10 for 88 yards and an interception in the endzone in the first preseason game against Dallas, and then was 1-for-5 for 9 yards against New Orleans last Friday. He?s run for 31 and 15 yards in the two games, playing a quarter in each.

Here?s Olson:

?We?re still kind of tinkering with that toy. We did some things in the first game we were pleased with,? Olson said. ?We went into the second game and tried some other schemes that we looked at them and say maybe they weren?t as successful as they were in that first week, but again we changed up, and we?ll continue to change up this week and do some different things with him this week, so that we have an entire package.

?Each week we?re trying to just expose a little bit with Terrelle, add a little bit to the initial package we had in for him.

This is stupid. If you want Terrelle to be successful, you don't put him in "packages". You make him the QB, and build an offense around him.

Living in Charlotte, I see no reason Terrelle can't be as successful as Cam Newton. Pryor is faster, shiftier, and arm strength is about on par. Newton has the better ability to throw with touch but Pryor has gotten better.

Oakland is missing a gift right in their laps though, IMO. They're going to watch Terrelle walk after his rookie deal and blow up elsewhere.

Isn't Cam significantly heavier than TP?

I think the NFL's over riding concern is that a "dual capable" QB is very likely to miss several weeks due to injury. They all cling to the pocket QB offense as if it were holy doctrine.

When are you going toget it is not EVEN all about physical attributes . Pryor will never be better because it is in the head , your brain is the main attribute in being an nfl qb. Especially when you keep getting hit by those men over and over, your going to want to run less.

What are you talking about? Really? I am glad he is finally doing good tonight, I loved that run he just had. But you want to ban me for expressing my individual opinion, that Pryror is a slower learner which would slow down his development and play on the field. I will copy and paste and show others how Emo you are. Calling for a ban for expressing my opinion and explaining my opinion RIGHT or WRONG. Your funny guy.

What a play Pryor just made.

2 amazing plays in one drive. And ford dropped a long fade along the right sideline. I think tonight just made the Raiders decision very interesting agreed? Haven't seen Pryor play this well since he has been in the league. Glad he is overcoming all his adversity. Good for him.

Should I feel bad for Flynn or for the teams getting him spending picks and money on him and then he ends up getting beat out and traded haha too funny

Oh my bad. I must have confused you with a BP poster that has an opinion I give a fuck about. You are kidding with the "I don't understand the grief" shit right?
