QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

I've kept my mouth shut for over a year, I will not answer any PMs or go into detail, I have some intimate knowledge of the situation and I can assure you.. TP has nothing on OSU. ESPN/SI dug & dug.. they didn't find some big pay for play because, simply, it's not there.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

TP was good, not great simply because I don't think he knew how to be great and wasn't getting the coaching that he should have.

I was excited when TP committed and was expecting big things. Again, good not great.

My problem with Terrelle hasn't really been brought up. It's less about his role in bringing down JT and hurting the program. I simply hated all of his stupid tweets while he was here and I never felt like he put in the work to maximize his potential. With his natural talents he should have advanced much more in his throwing mechanics as an example. He just got by on natural athleticism and ran his mouth off too much for me. Clearly he played a major roll in a lot of wins though and I will give him credit for that. He just left me wanting more. Not more wins just more leadership and maturity. I like seeing guys progress and get the most out of their natural ability, on and off the field. For me that never happend with Terrelle. I also feel bad for him during this time so I don't want to trash on the guy right now. His time here was certainly far below his potential in a lot of ways but I wish him luck in the future. Once a Buckeye always a Buckeye.

I understand what you're saying, but I think these deficiencies also fall at the feet of Tress (one in a long line of many former coaches for TP, sadly).

From the moment it was apparent Joe Daniels would be unable to continue on the staff, JT should have run out and found the best and brightest available QB coach in the nation. Coach Daniels was the QB coach and passing game coordinator; not coincidentally, QB/WR & passing game development became significantly stunted in JD's absence. The health issues became a concern in June of 06 (Troy was taking film to the hospital or to JD's house that fall), and while Coach Daniels was still on the staff and was the primary recruiter for TP into 2007/08, it was already known that his actual day-to-day responsibilities did not reflect either his title or salary (Sic was named interim QB coach in April 08).

There were two highly-recruited/highly-regarded scholarship QBs on the roster last season, one a 26-year old 5th yr senior, plus a third scholarship QB who was apparently competent enough in high school to get his WR teammates scholarships to LSU, Oklahoma, and Texas, yet not a single one of these three was able to demonstrate the ability to consistantly move a football down the field via the air?

TP wasn't the only QB that struggled with mechanics, footwork, and/or leadership post-Troy Smith. When you start having this 'sudden' problem with four or five different QBs in a lump, plus have every other QB on the roster regress and/or transfer, it's time to stop blaming a single player.

Rob Schoenhoft was an Elite 11 QB in the same class as Chase Daniel and Mark Sanchez, among others. At the E-11 camp Robbie was lauded for having the second strongest arm (behind Perriloux) and being extremely coachable; he was the most improved passer over the week. Schoenhoft was tagged 'most likely to win a national championship' by the counselors.

By 2007 Robbie looked like he'd never thrown a football before in his life.

TP had a hell of a three year career.

Yeah he may have lacked in maturity but I never questioned his work ethic or competitiveness. I remember how sick he used to look after losses. The kid gave us everything he had while he was out there.

Raiders QB Pryor eager for first extended game action

NAPA ? Upon being hired as the Raiders' quarterbacks coach this offseason, John DeFilippo pulled film of every snap Terrelle Pryor took in college. Pryor had spent a season in the NFL already, but that film would have made for a brief session.

Pryor got in for one play in his stunted rookie season ? a sneak attempt against the Kansas City Chiefs (nullified by a false start). He was already behind the curve, having left Ohio State early under an NCAA violations investigation and missed much of training camp before the Raiders took him in the supplemental draft. Pryor hardly saw the field again.

When the Raiders play their preseason opener Monday against the Dallas Cowboys, new head coach Dennis Allen said he expects Pryor, eager for another opportunity and still oozing confidence, to get "plenty of snaps."

"I can't wait," Pryor said. "It's been a long time for me to play football. It's what I was born to do. God blessed me, he gave me great talent, and I just want to try to ? I can finally use it again. It's been a long time."

The theme this offseason for Pryor, who came into camp seemingly a clear No. 3 behind Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart, has been improvement in small steps as he gets used to proper footwork and working through progressions in the Raiders' offense.

Because Ohio State ran a pro-style offense, Pryor said, there is some carryover to learning an NFL scheme, but it only goes so far.

"Sometimes I go in the (shotgun), and it'll be a whole other read," Pryor said. "It's kind of the same, I can match it up, but I don't think I was great at it. Coming out of high school, I was just an athlete that just, whenever the guy was open, I didn't know what I was reading. When I saw a guy open, I threw the ball.

"Now, coming out of college, I got to learn to read defenses. I wasn't blessed enough to be at a powerhouse that you learn that stuff as a quarterback. So I'm working, and I'm going to get good at it."

I believe he was referencing his high school program in that statement.

This. TP said coming out of high school he was an athlete, but coming out of OSU, he got to (had the opportunity to) read defenses.

Pryor's still behind the curve because Jeannette was such a small program compared to a woodland hills or gateway.

Edit: John Defillippo (check the short resume) is apparently what Californians call a Nick Siciliano. Even the same home town!!

I stopped reading after this. You can call TP a lot of things, but you can't question his work ethic.

Its very simple actually. The Buckeyes have been a run first, run second type of offense the entire Bollman regime. Every Buckeye fan knows that. Pryor is probably right where he wasnt at a powerhouse type of "passing" program where he'd read a lot of defenses such as Texas Tech or BYU or even USC. I don't read it as a slight to JT or the program, its just apples and oranges and now he has to learn to read defenses.

This. I couldn't finish reading that post. There are some things you can absolutely say about TP. The two things you cannot questions about him are:

1.) His competitiveness. No one wanted to win more than #2.

2.) His work ethic. He, no question, had one of the strongest work ethics in the program for the 3 years he was here.

Former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor was limited to one regular-season snap as a rookie with the Raiders. He is expected to play tonight against the Cowboys.

NAPA, Calif. ? Former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor has been waiting a long time to play in a football game.

After an aborted rookie season with the Oakland Raiders that included no preseason games and a penalty before his only snap in the regular season, Pryor is ready for this season?s exhibition opener. He will get his chance tonight when the Raiders play at home against the Dallas Cowboys.

Oakland coach Dennis Allen said Pryor would get plenty of snaps behind starter Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart.

?I can?t wait,? Pryor said. ?It?s been a long time for me to play football. It?s what I was born to do. God blessed me. ?He gave me great talent and I just want to try to ? use it again. It?s been a long time.?

Raiders fans will finally get their chance to see quarterback Terrelle Pryor play Monday night in the preseason opener against the Cowboys. Unfortunately for them, safety Mike Mitchell won't call the plays.

He would have the former Ohio State star bootlegging left and right.

"He runs like a deer," Mitchell said. "It's just what you saw in college. We're all fast guys on defense, but if you don't get him in the first 10 yards ... put your head down and start running. I would like to see him run it a little bit more."

Pryor - who got on the field for only one play last season as a rookie - has been working hard on staying in the pocket, making the right reads and delivering accurate passes.

It's been hit-and-miss the first two weeks of training camp, but Monday night's the first real test, playing full-contact against guys who are wearing different uniforms. Pryor will see extensive action, as will a lot of second- and third-teamers who are trying to make an impression with the Raiders' coaches.

"There's a lot of people I am looking forward to watching," defensive coordinator Jason Tarver said. "A lot of people. I am really excited for these guys and the opportunity they have. ...
