QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

On Pryor contract, ball is in Raiders? court
Posted by Mike Florio on August 23, 2011

During Tuesday?s PFT Live, Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor said he?ll join the team as soon as his contract is signed.

So where does Pryor?s contract stand, more than a day after he was picked by the Raiders in the third round of the supplemental draft?

We?re told that the ball currently is in the Raiders? court.

It should be a fairly simple process, especially in light of the rookie wage scale. Given that Pryor already is way behind his peers, time would seem to be of the essence.

Whenever Pryor signs his contract, he apparently will be playing quarterback, at least for now. Apart from Pryor?s strongly-stated desire to remain at the position he has played since his sophomore year in high school (he previously was a running back), Paul Gutierrez of CSNBayArea.com said on PFT Live that the Raiders will indeed put Pryor at the quarterback position.

"The type of guy that you're getting is a competitive guy, a feisty guy that wants to win and will do anything to win," he told the NFL Network. "Work hard and a person that is just opportunistic. I'm just waiting for an opportunity and when I get it, I'm going to have success."

Pryor will be joined by a former teammate when he signs with the Raiders. Oakland had drafted cornerback Chimdi Chekwa in the fourth round in April and Chekwa gave Pryor a glowing review.

"He was a guy who can make the throws on the football field," Chekwa said. "He also has that threat of scrambling and running. When we needed a big play in college, he made that play. When we went against him in practice, first-team offense versus first-team defense, we had to spy him, do different things. He makes you have to account for the quarterback running."

Breaking silence here. I have been listening to a lot of ESPN naysayers in the last few days. They make me sick. They have no idea what TP is all about. His competitive spirit and will to win is something they will come to know very well. You won't find TP moping along the sidelines. As much negative PR he has created, he is capable of lifting a team in need. I wish him well in the NFL and with the Raiders. He deserves an opportunity to prove himself and I hope Todd McShay eats crow along with a little (Mark May) in the very near future.

TP has been a hard worker in the classroom and obviously in practice/games. I think his work ethic will earn him a fair chance at QB out there in the Bay Area. I don't know if it's my love for Ohio State, my appreciation for elite athletic ability, or my disdain for the way he was treated by the media during and after his time at Ohio State, but something about his situation has me emotionally invested in his career. I might even buy a TP jersey. I would just love for him give the media a big F U with quarterback success.

Anyone who thinks TP isn't a hard worker or a bright guy doesn't know what they speak of. NO ONE on the team out worked him. Also Pryor is 8 hours short of his degree. Pretty impressive for a guy who play's football and didn't enroll early. TP is plenty smart....
Pryor 8 hours short of a degree after three years of school? I know lots of parents who will probably wave this fact in front of their kids, who are still "undeclared" after 4-1/2 years ...

Yeah that was the point I was trying to make. I'll fucking shake the hand of anyone who got through college in 3 1/2 years. Fuck half my friends didn't pick majors until their 3rd year.
