QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Huge difference in the mental progression of our last two star quarterbacks, who I readily compared as they had some similar questions about maturity coming out of high school.

Troy Smith accepted money from a booster on one noted occasion, and when Tressel stuck with him to help he took it to heart. Here's the last thing I read about Troy:

Pediatric hospitals are generally unpleasant buildings to visit. The good people who work with sick kids do everything they can to insulate them and their families from fully absorbing the gravity of where they are and why they, often times, often live there.

...

On Friday, November 17, 2006 I was on that fifth floor of Nationwide Childrens finishing up rounds with a couple of nurses when the televisions mounted to the walls all simultaneously interrupted afternoon programming for breaking news: Bo Schembechler was dead. His heart, which had betrayed him for decades, finally gave in for good.

...

It's not as if Michigan wasn't on anyone's mind in Columbus already that week; the Michigan game was less than 24 hours away. Ohio State was undefeated. Michigan was undefeated. For several weeks, there had been an inevitability that both teams would make it to their November 18 meeting with unblemished records and nationally ranked first and second respectively, setting up the biggest meeting in a rivalry defined by big meetings.

...

I'm not sure how many seconds or minutes went by after the initial breaking news report, but lost amidst the noise of Central Ohio television anchors reading their respective scripts over each other, there was the ding of the elevator bell and the sound of its doors opening and closing. Then, Ohio State defensive back Antonio Smith walked onto the unit and immediately stopped to take in the news Schembechler's passing. Seconds later, quarterback Troy Smith followed him onto the floor.

...

A nurse told me. "You get a little numb to it because they're always here. This is a little different, with it being Michigan week and that being Troy Smith. But they're always here."

...

Her daughter was in treatment and fast asleep, but she did not want to wake her. She was a huge Ohio State fan, and more specifically, a huge Troy Smith fan. So huge that she actually had a red number ten jersey draped on the chair in her room. It was her chosen decor.

Troy walked to the foot of her bed and watched her for a few seconds as she slept next to the whirring machines that were plugged into her, then looked over at his replica jersey draped over the chair where her mother had been sitting. He then drew a Sharpie and wrote a personal autograph to her on the white number one of that jersey, then laid it down on top of her as a blanket while she remained motionless as her mother stood at the bedside with tears streaming down her face. He would not be there to enjoy her reaction to discovering who had visited her while she slept.

Everytime Pryor has been in the news, I've gladly rushed to his defense, knowing that this is some of the similar stuff I was hearing and reading about Troy before he blosommed. Can't do it anymore. It's time to move on. Being the quarterback of Ohio State means more than just talent; Terrelle damn sure has more of that than Troy.

The truly depressing side of it is that in all of the defenses that I've made for TP during his time here, I can just see Tressel having done the same for him. For Tressel, TP was a kid who needed some guidance and some help, nothing he wasn't used to. But yet here we are, we've lost our coach and if you let the blog sites and the magazines tell it, our program.

It's true that TP is not the entire problem, it stretches beyond just him and his "give-me" attitude. But, when you have a mountain of work to do, you've got to start somewhere.

All Ohio State players get inside, lock your doors and bolt them shut. They are out to get you they are going to find any little bit of info to put a college kid down. This is sad, I feel bad for TP he makes a lot of mistakes lets face it but he doesnt deserve to be stalked by the media or abused on twitter leave the kid alone.

At some point people lose the privilege of being given the benefit of the doubt.

the way the media is attacking this great university is unprecedented.... What the [censored].

This whole thing sucks, but we're losing perspective folks...

It's not "the media", it's a couple of sport talk shows and magazines.

It's not "this great university", it's the football program.

My pride as an alum isn't tied to the success of the football team. It's nice to throw it back and forth with alums from rival schools, but the majority of people out there don't know and don't care what a couple of cranks are saying on the radio.

Does this mess tarnish the brand? Maybe a little bit, but the folks who understand what that brand means and its true value, pay little or no attention to it.

You may resume flinging sh*t at the walls...

Fair enough, but it seems like things have been taken too far

I'm not a fan of mobs forming to get anyone because you never know when it could be you they turn on next.

That said Pryor obviously embraced the many benefits of the celebrity that goes with being an OSU football player without whining about it. Now he should take the downside of it sans whiny bitch stuff. He brought it on himself, no one else did.

I agree that Pryor should take the legitimate downside of what he has done. Unfortunately, something tells me that the "legitimate downside" will be left far in the rearview mirror as "fans" cry for blood.

Sad but true.

Yep. Someone has to define legitimate downside I guess but I don't think a VERBAL tar and feathering is that far out of line. He's at that weird age when they aren't kids anymore but they damn sure aren't men yet. Hard to know where to come down on it.

Just reading the tags below, I wonder how many fans (knowing what they know now) wish he would have been a major bust instead. TP has as much talent as he does a sense of entitlement. I'm not sure how I feel about him playing another game for OSU. I never blamed him for the lows or praised him for the highs. I believe this is a team game. But when you jeopordize team for self, someone needs to step up and say so.

So I can't blame TP alone in this. The other seniors-to-be needed to say something or do something. The leadership for this team needed to be there for the rest of the team. This is a team game.

As an OSU alum, nothing/no one will cease my love for everything Buckeyes. I look forward to the light at the end of the tunnel.

This seems oddly coincidental...

I really think we've come across the crux of the issue and now know what Dorhmann was after. I'm about 95% certain this was what Dohhmann wanted to report but probably didn't have the concrete evidence.

These kids were "stealing" their own gear, and maybe gear of other teammates to make a few bucks. University realizes equipment has been stolen, files a police report, but the fact of the matter is, the thieves were on the team. I think that would make sense in regards to Tressel covering up...that's a massive story that his star QB is stealing equipment and selling for cash/tattoos....

OK ... "Back in The Day" theft of University Property was grounds for immediate expulsion.

Anyone know if that Policy has been softened?

Maybe the best thing he could have done for TP was simply tell him NO!

For all those thinking that this is unfair and piling on TP, keep that frame of mind should some uninsured driver, going 99mph in a borrowed dealer car ever hit you or someone you love.

And TP has received 3 tickets for doing 99, 94 & 88 and has no insurance and a suspended license?

DRIVING UNDER SUSPENSION: Operaring a motor vehicle while your license is under suspension is a First Degree Misdemeanor, and if convicted, you are subject to a fine of up to $1000 or six months in jail, or both. You may also be sentenced to an additional one-year driver license suspension.

ADDITIONALLY: Operating a vehicle while an operator license in under suspension or revocation is a Six - Point Violation.
