QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

why would he stick around two more years when he can certainly get drafted as a project and start making some money. money seems to be an issue or he wouldn't have been selling stuff.

You really can't wait for him to leave, can you? Don't worry, there will be another Wolverine killer in waiting right behind him.

that's honestly beside the point. I don't think he's ready to go pro myself. When I heard he announced he was staying for his senior year it was no surprise to me. That being said, I don't see the point in coming back and trying to get a redshirt next year and then sit out 5 games the year after that. The NCAA won't stand for him serving a suspension in games that he wouldn't have played in due to injury. He will have to serve his suspension.

So at this point, it seems to make the most sense for him to just go pro now. Get drafted and get some NFL coaching into him and see what happens.

you say I can't wait for him to leave, I won't deny that I will be happy when he's gone for my own selfish reasons. But it goes both ways. You got guys wanting the kid to hang around for two more seasons before leaving. That's for their own selfish reasons as well.

one more question. being suspended the first 5 games, is he going to be allowed to practice and travel with the team during that time?

I'm sure TP has Heisman aspirations. Sitting the first 5 games obviously kills any hope of winning. That will play into his decision. What motivation would he have of even returning?

a lot of decisions and a lot of soul searching for TP over the next month or so. When is the deadline to submit your name for the draft?

Doesn't work that way Max. He's been suspended for the first 5 games of 2011. If he decides to sit out the other 7 games of 2011, he will receive his redshirt.
I don't think the NCAA would buy this one. If Pryor were to redshirt in 2011, he'd almost certainly be required to serve a 5-game suspension in 2012.

don't you have to have a reason to redshirt after you have already played a few seasons? It would have to be a medical redshirt, right? So who want's to break his arm so he can sit out next season

No. Everyone is entitled to one redshirt season. It is solely discretionary with the player and coaches and does not matter when it occurs. Every player has 5 years to play 4.

I don't think so Max. I think the NCAA rules would allow for both to occur in the same year.

The NCAA infractions committee is unlikely to agree with you here IMO. Besides which, with all the discussion of "unethical" responses by our administration, gaming the system to avoid punishment (which is ultimately what this would amount to) would truly be unethical IMO. In addition to its probably not working.

I guess all of this talk about redshirting makes the assumption that Pryor would be the best quarterback on the team in 2012, right? There's good talent coming in and lots of time between now and then. I'm not so sure that the coaching staff would make that decision, even if Pryor were marginally better at that point than the quarterback that ended 2011.

Exactly! If they redshirt, which I think is the best option, then they ALL have to compete for their jobs in 2012. Nothing should be given to anyone. If TP is still the best option at QB, then he deserves to start. IF someone like Braxton Miller steps up and shows that he is more deserving, then that's life and that's the risk each player is making.

However, I think it is the better risk and I can't imagine any of the players who were suspended NOT being the best player at their position in 2012.

I would have to disagree with you my friend. I think sitting out an entire year could be viewed as a very severe form of punishment. It is not avoiding anything (its actually extending it) and IS within the NCAA rules to do so.

Yeah that's the thing. What happens if one of Miller, Grahmn or Guiton blows up next year? Now the most likely one seems to be Miller. So if he has a super freshman season and puts up numbers close to Pryor's this year (yes, certainly unlikely) what happens then?

Honestly I think it would be much better for the continuity of the program to either start Pryor the remaining 7-8 games next year, or for him to decide to go pro.

Personally I don't see Pryor redshirting if he returns, but I don't see how the NCAA could do anything about it. Look at this unrealistic hypothetical:
TP isn't allowed to play the first 5 games next season. The player that takes his place plays great and plays every snap at QB so JT never feels the need to put TP in the game and therefore does not get on the field at all next season. TP would have served his 5 game suspension with the intention of coming back and playing as soon as it was over, but never got back on the field. I don't see the NCAA stopping him from playing in the first 5 games the next season because he didn't get to play the year before.

If one of the pups is playing QB at the same or higher level as TP I would turn him into a WR for the rest of the season and let him go to the NFL.
