QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Improvement in nearly every single category. The guy came to Ohio State to learn how to be a Quarterback. The evidence is in, and he's doing exactly that. He could have gone to Michigan (or Oregon, for that matter) and been an absolute beast running their offenses. If he's not frustrated he should be - he came to Ohio State with one particular skill set setting himself above all others. A skill set he's essentially consciously chosen to abandon... if not abandon, he certainly does not rely exclusively on his legs. ... and he's getting punished for it - for not being Terrelle Pryor the runner playing QB.

.. all he's done is become a better QB every single season he's been here. Should he be 1st team All Big Ten? I happen to think so, but the more important thing is this - he came here to become a QB and not a runner taking snaps. If he fails to win a single honor, ever, he has achieved (or I should say, continues to achieve) what he set out to do.

If he's not wowing the media, I could give a [censored]. He's doing just fine as far as I'm concerned.

^ What he said!! Probably couldn't give enough rep for that post.

I've said it before but you know a lot of people around the nation, the national media, and even some of Buckeye Nation had expectations of TP coming here and winning a few heismans and multiple championships. I think anything short of that was going to be disappointing to some. But Buckeyeskickbuttocks nails it. Pryor came here to become a QB and all he has done is improved year after year at the QB position. I've got to believe the best is yet to come for Pryor.....even if that's not winning a NC or a heisman.

My hope is that mentally he can rise above all the hype, the clowns in the media, all the expectations, and even himself and the crazy pressure he puts on himself.

as soon as we have a successful one, i'll let you know. but this thread is about TP.

OK, I'll take Ann Arbor grammar for $100 Mike. Would not there be two interpretations of your question?

Did you mean to ask...

a) Wouldn't winning a national championship at Ohio State be considered an under-achievement for TP by Ohio State fans?

or

b) If TP doesn't win a national championship, will fans feel that he under-achieved at Ohio State?

Considering all of the other things that factor into winning a NC other than QB play (luck, injuries, being able to stop the power rush and prevent kick-off return TDs), I would say no.

I would actually answer yes to a certain extent.

He did come in right after we had been to 2 straight National Championship games, he was viewed as the X factor in getting us back there and over the hump and he was surrounded by a great class around him. If you had told people that he would start for 4 years back then and not win an NC I would say they'd view that as a bit of a dissappointment.

Now whether that's fair or not is a different matter, obviously there is a lot more to it then just 1 guy. There is also a big difference between unachievement and being a "bust". Pryor clearly has had a great career at OSU, winning 3 Big Ten Championships and a Rose Bowl is not something a lot of players can say. For TP to truly be among the upper echelon of the Buckeye greats like he wants to be he has to lead the team to the NC and I think he knows this. That's just a reflection of how high the standard is here.

I think TP set his bar high when he drug out his college announcement and made a big deal of it by doing it on National TV with an entire audience in attendance. Dont get me wrong, his signing helped OSU with more PR and more looks by kids we may not have had a chance with, but he helped set his own "expectancy bar" as high as it is.

The kid will need either a Heisman with two BCS wins (this year and next), OR no Heisman and a National Title win to cement his legacy as fulfilled.

Hypothetically: TP gets a BCS win this year and ends up with another BCS win (non National Title), he goes down as memorable but not legendary - ala Beanie. Beanie left after racking up yards and key wins but he didn't get the Trophies or National Title wins as expected on his arrival. Beanie didn't quite reach Eddie George level, but he is up there with greats like Byars.

Just so I have this clear? He needs two MORE BCS wins (he already has one)?

I think he just needs to keep working hard and improving and good things will happen. I'm very excited because I saw tremendous improvement between the end of last season and the Rose Bowl. Then we saw another big leap this season. Watch out for his senior season because it might be one to remember. :)
