QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Good link.

Something that I saw VY do a lot that helped quite a bit on both his running and passing were the pump fakes. He almost seemed to use them at will. The pumps are something that I haven't really seen from TP this year at all. I recall him doing it a couple times last year maybe, but it seems like it could be an easy way to open a lot of things up. Perhaps when he's running to the sidelines if he uses the fake he can run up field or get a db to bite and dump a pass over the top. I know it's pretty basic and obvious but it just seems like a simple thing that isn't hard to implement. Especially considering how a lot of NFL quarterbacks are starting to utilize the pump fake more and more now.

A pump fake is most effective when an actual threat to throw the football exists........

High school coach of Ohio State Buckeyes QB Terrelle Pryor says he's not being used effectively - ESPN

"He would be a great wide receiver or even a great linebacker," Reitz said. "But that doesn't mean you should move him from quarterback. In fact, I don't think he'd agree to a move to wide receiver. Give him time to grow. Put the ball in his hands and if there is a breakdown let him run. It doesn't look to me like he's relaxed. It doesn't look like he has rhythm. It doesn't look like he's comfortable."

Don't think for a minute that Tressel will heed any of his advice. Stay the course and coach will be as successful with Terrelle as he is with his win record in college football. Be patient, trust the coach, trust Terrelle, and don't rush the gourmet meal that is being served. I believe Terrelle should adopt some meditation techniques, get laid and don't worry about it being perfect.

I'm just thankful that Coach Reitz did such a good job of teaching Terrelle Pryor throwing mechanics and all them QBfundamentals.

Uh, Coach, not to show disrespect or anything, but the game moves a wee bit faster than a high school pick-up game where Terrelle is now.

That article suggests we started out under center this year because Tressel promised to put TP in a pro style offense. I think the reason we have went away from being under center is to take some of the footwork out of the equation and make reads easier for TP. I don't think it has anything to do with a promise from his recruitment.

Someone needs to tell this kid that above all else, he needs to go out on the field on Saturday and have fun. He's looked absolutely joyless since the Penn State game LAST year.

The game is supposed to be FUN. Squeezing the air out of the ball and trying to hard kills the fun.

Exactly.

While I don't suggest Coach Reitz's proposals are necessarily the solution to TP's ills the observations he makes are accurate in terms of not looking comfortable and playing like a robot.

Reading JWins's post (#7538)

Quote:
"It's gotten to the point where I turn the volume down when watching TV now," Reitz said. "I believe the criticism has seeped into his mind. I'm sure there are some mechanical issues. But all I know is he was accurate when he was in high school."

Assuming this was part of the originally posted article, it has now vanished. Nice, work ESPIN.

From the OZone:

* Pryor said loss may be best thing to happen to him and team. said he was sarting to feel like a superstar and a lot of people around him were filling his head with stuff. said he is back down to earth now and feeling completely relaxed.

* Pryor said hazell called him this week to make sure he was ok. also lebron. they text often and he is a role model for tp. said he also talks to miami qb jakory harris weekly and he had some good advice for tp abt settling down and just taking what the defense is giving him.

* TP said he thinks the offense will start moving in the right direction now and hes not sure why his high school coach made the comments he did. he doesnt want to be a zone read qb only and wouldnt trade where he is for anywhere.

* Siciliano said he pulled bauserman aside sunday to make sure he was ok too. said he understands the situation and why they chose to stick with pryor.

* Doc Tress said he would like to see saine carry the ball more. 18 times a game and the other guy at least 10 times. said boom is where he was before he reinjured his ankle. he can practice but they dont want him getting hit yet.

more after i listen to sound

My first thought. This is a guy people claim did nothing to help prepare Terrelle for being a QB yet he wants to blame our coaches for all of TP's problems?
Reitz also said, "Jim Tressel is a great coach and he's been running his offense successfully for 30 years." Doesn't sound like a slam job to me. Reitz is just offering some opinions, which is what he was asked to do. Cut the man some slack.

Not sure I'd call it a slam job but he is undermining Tressel and the other offensive coaches in front of the country when it's really not needed and he doesn't seem to want to take any of the blame for Pryor's problems. It's Tressel and Sic who haven't been developing him.

Reitz seeks out those sharing opportunities.
Cut the man some slack.
As Oregon said, this is a guy who wants to call out another staff without taking any blame himself. He even tried to sneak in the laughable notion that Terrelle was accurate in high school, and it's been the scheme and pressure that's changed that. Terrelle was many things in high school, but an accurate passer was not one of them.
