QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Right now, Terrelle is playing like a tentative youngster. He's hesitant as a passer and runner imo. His progress is certainly the coaches' responsibility, but there aren't a lot of ways to scheme around his shortcomings. He has to grow out of them.

Your point is well made by saying a "tentative youngster". I just wonder what his mindset was when he 1st came to OHioState. Was he thinking that all he had to to was show up on the field and that everything would come to him? I dont know that, but maybe now he realizes that there are other players equal to his level of talent and that its now alot harder than he first imagined. And maybe it will take a little bit longer for him to slow down and see the field as it should be. I just think alot of young players will take a longer time to grasp the concept of what the coaching staff is trying to teach to them.

I disagree. I think there are ways to work around them, and that will allow him to develop without putting him in the position where he needs to win the games by himself.

I doubt that few people outside the offensive coaching staff know what to do to help TP find some consistency. They have seem him tons more than we have. I am sure they work all week in practice on it. Me personally would like to see him commit to the play and stay in the pocket....deliver the ball and take the hit. I don`t mind the broken play but many times I think TP is assuming the play is broken before it is. He is still trying to do more than he has too, which is get the ball to your playmakers.

I look for the coaching staff to help him a lot in the next few games to get these things fixed. I think we all thought we would be a bit more consistent then we have been so far. It can still happen and hopefully we peak those last 3 games. Go Bucks

That might hold more water imo if Terrelle was doing the little things properly. Which plays do you think Terrelle can run effectively right now?
You would have stayed with a situation which was struggling without Beanie?

The OL could not keep Todd comfortable enough in the pocket to execute.

I think he can pitch the ball to Saine. Let the defenses worry about his ability to run, and the quick pitch to the outside has a good chance.

I am not saying that I would not have played Pryor at the end of the USC game, but once Beanie was healthy, the running game would have opened up the passing game, and Todd was without a doubt, a better pocket passer.

And I am absolutely NOT knocking on TP, I know that he has the skills and the ability to develop. But I think that everyone expects him to win games single handedly, and the truth is that he doesn't need to. The supporting cast is not as bad as the media would have you believe. I also don't think the Wisconsin game is a very good basis to judge the offense.

I think Kyle brings up some good points. Years ago, there were a handful of us arguing to give a future Heisman trophy winner a chance and most people on this board really scoffed at the idea. Go back and look and you'll see what I mean.

Pryor will mature. I think that the rather sober assessments in recent pages about his deviations from the scheme tell a story.

Tress developed Troy. Remember the expressions of Troy in that last TSUN game as they took the field. Tress will develop Terrelle.

It may kill some of us older folks watching it, but in time this kid is really gonna be something if he listens to Tressel.

What are you talking about?
zero fake/sell of anything in the offense. when you watch a manning, favre etc, you see the hand off and some "sell" of either a boot, or dropping back. pryor seems to hand the ball off and then his shoes are instantly filled with cement as he stand there and watches. with his ability and threat of the boot he should be putting a lick of effort into the fake, this will help hold the backside contain and loosen things up a tad.

Agreed. He needs to think about doing the job of handing off and the job of selling the play on his end at the same time rather than handing off and staring at the play. Then they'll be able to utilize rollouts a little more which I'd like to see if TP can work on the throws on the run and tucking up field if he doesn't see anything.

I would like to see TP run a boot like he has the ball even if he doesn't. One thing that would help this offense that TP and JT could easily do is misdirection. If you freeze the LB's and Safeties with a fake boot and/or reverse it will open up the running game and make OL and RB's lives easier.

Understand now. Yeah Manning and Farve were good at that. I remember Rex Kern was pretty good at selling the fake or a boot. In the 69 RoseBowl he did a good job. He even faked out the NBC cameramen. Kurt Gowdy even said this. Very impressive at the time.
