I don't think that TP is "trying to be a pocket passer".....the coaching staff is helping him improve as a passer. The words out of the coaching staff has been primarily been about him setting his feet right before making the throw. He is gonna be a great one...at this point in time Troy Smith was returning punts, and Vince Young couldn't do much right.....he was even being booed by fans at Texas.

Also, I accept your point that we need to do whatever it takes to win to some extent....but there is a reason the top recruits come to tOSU. It is because Jim Tressel and his coaching staff have improved them to the extent that they are truly prepped to be drafted as best as they can into the NFL. If that sort of development stops, we can forget about recruiting and keeping this program at the prestige level that it is currently at.

I for one have been enjoying watching Terrelle going through the process. You can watch the wonders that the JT coaching staff can do for a player. :)

I like the throws he made late in this game. Pryor says the game plan was to throw the ball a ton in this game but the weather changed all that. Short passing game attacking those corners. He looked sharp late. Pass to the fullback even.

Pryor was 8 of 11 for 80+ yards in the second half after the rain. That is actually some pretty good stats considering we were sitting on a big lead and running the ball at will.

Just the one bad late throw over the middle from what i recall.

60% passing for the game. This is the percentage JT likes from a QB. The young WR corp need to step up. This offense will be fine IMO. Alot of games left. Our youth at the skill positions (WR & RB especially) is our weekness on Offense. The O line is our strength.

I agree. Against Illinois the Illini had 8 or 9 in the box and we still ran the ball for over 5 yards a carry. If you noticed the Iowa/Penn State game Iowa ran with 8 or 9 in the box trying to stop them. This is a good sign. our OL is vastly imroved from last year. Our passing game just needs to get more game experience. TP also needs to make better field decisons. We will be fine.

Biggest Adjustment IMO has been making teams respect Pryor's Legs. I know I know they have always been aware of him running. But have they really? When you got pryor dropping back and standing in the pocket like Boeckman it's not as alerting as when he's in shot gun with a fake read option then pass. Much like Troy in 05' the fake option pass only buys more time for the recievers to get open.

After watchin the Illinois game the reason I believe we ran the ball pretty well was our approach. Not as much Straight I formation but rather read options, speed options, and stretch plays. Anytime Pryor gets the ball first and has the option of holding it or pulling it it will hold a few players still to make sure their responsibilities are covered. That one second can be the difference between a 2 yard gain and a 15 yard gain. I sure hope that the increased number of shotgun formations continues (especially with read options) because Pryor just isn't there quite yet as far as a pro style QB. They (the coaches) I believe realize they weren't benefiting from Pryor's running capabilities like they should've been and have thus changed gears. It should ALWAYS be Make teams worry about the QB's running ability, RB's ability, and THEN boom hit them with Playaction. Maybe down the road we can go drop back in the pocket but right now it seems to me they're realizing they first need to maximize pryor's mobility first to set up his passing.

I think the shotgun for him also allows him a chance to survey the field and see whether a pass is going to be there or not or if the run will work or not. He doesn't have as much to think about once the ball is in his hands and that will help a young player make good decisions. If he isn't worried about 3-5-7 step drop make sure the fake is at the 3-5 step range turn and start reading but instead put the ball out front while reading the defense and sucking in the backers then make my decision. The shotgun is how Troy was affective and TP is in more of a high profile role than Troy was at the point Tress used it for him. I think it is a huge building block set to use for young QB's that may not have that power back to protect them. Add to all that...if the weather cooperates til November-ish, he will get more time to pass in game time when he isn't expecting or knowledgable of what the defense is bringing. Indiana better be ready to get run off the field.

I agree with everything you say. I'm starting to think that if we had a more capable back up QB, TP would be better suited in a different position. More than a couple of his passes could have went the other way. The one TD to Posey stands out the most. I think that after 15 or so games as a starter he would be farther along than he is. To say the least I'm a tad dissapointed.

Which leads to this... TP wanted to be a "Pro Style QB" and get to the NFL, that's why he came here. Just how many QB's have we put in the NFL in TP's lifetime, and how many of those QB's are still there or played significant time? How many QB's have the other top schools in the nation put in the NFL? I honestly don't know the answer and I hope JLB or DBB already has the stats somewhere, but I can't for the life of me figure out why someone who wants to be a successful NFL QB would come here under the current staff. They have proven nothing.

Give me a fucking break. Thankfully the coaches don't give up on their players as easily as fans. Different position? Are you serious? TP didn't look great to me either but I am more than happy he's our QB and I can also keep in mind he's a true sophomore.

tOSU has never recruited a lot of big time talents at QB so the "who have we produced in the NFL" question doesn't hold much water with TP. We did just send a 6'0" athlete to the league and he's doing better than anyone would've thought.

He quoted my post. The Buckeyes moved the ball today. I was just trying to point out that this offense can get better, a lot better.
