Terrelle Pryor: The New Face of the Buckeyes

Saturday night was Todd Boeckman's night to show the world that he deserves respect from everyone outside the Ohio State Buckeyes' fan base, and that he can finally step up and win the big game.
And, once again, he flopped under the lights.
When Chris "Beanie" Wells was ruled out of the game against USC on Saturday, everyone immediately knew that the Buckeyes' chances of competing with USC would come down to the play of Boeckman, and they were right.
The quarterback is the center of the offense, he leads the team on the field and he also leads the team emotionally, and Boeckman showed on Saturday that he is no emotional leader; however, one player stepped up to try and be that leader.
Enter Terrelle Pryor.
The highly touted prospect showed a little of his talents against Youngstown State, but this game was his chance to show the world what he can do against a legitimate defense, and that's what he did with the opportunities he was given. However, his talents also go beyond what he displayed on the field; during the game, he was continually attempting to pump up his teammates, trying to be that emotional leader that they were missing on the field.

Good article. Good read. I was on the plane back from LA on Monday and read this exact article in the USA today. I am sure many of you have also, but for those who have not, my 2 links from USA today are must reads and then, lets see what you think about TB vs TP and the overall status of the team's attitude. First a quote from Alex Boone...... This concerns me more than anything.

"At halftime nobody was saying anything," Boone said. "I mean what the hell? We're Ohio State. We should be screaming and swearing everything you can think of, and guys were hanging their heads. You don't know what to say to them. You start screaming, and they just put their heads down even more."

This is a shame because it seems like they're starting to feel sorry for themselves. They cannot do this and expect to win out or even win 10 games. They need to regroup and refocus.

I don't know if it's feeling sorry for themselves as much as there is no leader on the field with Beanie in sweatpants on the sideline. Last season, Barton was the vocal leader for the team early, until Beanie emerged down the stretch.

Nobody is doing that this year. It will be interesting to see where the team goes if Pryor is the one who takes it upon himself to grab the reins.

Anyway, 7 years in the program??? already 1 year too many.... Let's keep him working Pryor in. If Todd wants the Job maybe he could earn it back if he has indeed lost it.

Just my lame opinion and that doesn't mean a whole lot.

:oh:

This then sparks the question: How can someone emotionally lead a team without talking or even being around them? They can't.
Pryor has proven that he is ready to lead this offense and this team. Although Boeckman is a senior, he crumpled under the pressure, looking more like a freshman than Pryor did.

TB lost control of the offense and TP gained it back. Seeing Terrelle in the game was the best thing about it that night. Seeing him smiling and confident, eager and exuberant, and successful with the plays that he made, made me feel this team has a very bright future. Any recruit coming in to tOSU better think about what kind of team this is going to be with TP at QB. They better think about committing to the Buckeyes before going elsewhere because this team will be back next in full force. I'm not giving up on 2008 just speculating what a dynamic team this will be with a fresh look in the next few years. You fall and you rebuild. This year for whatever reason, the team is slightly behind the curve. More reason to get TP in the game to boost morale. I would love to see TB pull himself up, that would be a great boost to the team. But having Pryor there seems reassuring and hopeful. We need that going into week 4. The team needs that as well.

It's really sad to say, but Pryor appears to be our best hope. Talent wise I'm not 100% sure, because he still has to show he can throw the ball at the next level, but mentally and vocally the kid is where its at. Vocal leader, and he knows it's his role now. Shame we have to throw him to the wolves, but Tressel cannot justify starting Boeckman anymore. :(

12-1, here we come.
