QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

I think if he went to Michigan he'd be more Vince Young than Pat White.

Why does Rodriguez run the ball so much at WVU? Simple. He doesn't have very good wide receivers on his team and Pat White is not a good thrower. I cannot emphasize those two points enough.

Michigan will never be short on receiving talent. Off the top of my head, over the last 15 years they've had; Desmond Howard, Amani Toomer, Tai Streets, Derrick Alexander, David Terrell, Marquise Walker, Jason Avant, Braylon Edwards, and Steve Breaston all get drafted and spend time in the NFL. Mario Manningham and Adrian Arrington are pretty much sure bets to join those guys as NFL players pretty soon. I might be forgetting some as well.

I don't buy for a second that the guy is going to be pigeon holed into being Pat White part deux. West Virginia just doesn't get very much receiving talent and Pat White just cannot throw the football.

I don't disagree on your remarks, but it bears noting that Rich Rod was responsible for the acquiring of WR talent at WVU, just as he will be at Mich. That said, Pryor would already have better WRs to work with at Mich than White had at WVU. So, assuming Rich Rod doesn't run off WR talent, and Mich did end up with Pryor, your assessment of Young instead of White is probably accurate.

In any event, I'm pretty sure once Terrelle Pryor's college career is over, we'll see that he was Terrelle Pryor, and not Vince Young or Pat White anyway.

Over the past 15 years we've had: Ted Ginn, Anthony Gonzalez, Roy Hall, Santonio Holmes, Michael Jenkins, Drew Carter, Reggie Germany, Ken-Yon Rambo, David Boston, Terry Glenn, and Joey Galloway. I'd say we've done just as well as Michigan has at putting WRs into the NFL...

West Virginia has plenty of available receivers this year.

RR simply chose to still feature the run. You suggest White wasn't a good thrower - what was wrong with all the coaching then, couldn't they develop his talent? Not a great sales point for RR and the staff he is transporting lock stock and barrel to AA.

Lastly, wherever Pryor goes he isn't likely to more or less of anything other than himself.

Great post! I agree with a lot of what you said.

It's very hard to recruit top notch recruits to come to West Virginia though.

Michigan is like any of your other traditional powerhouses out there. Like your Notre Dame's, USC's, Ohio State's, Texas'. You ask blue chip recruits to come at those schools. At West Virginia you've got to essentially beg blue chip recruits to come. It took Rod about 5 years just to be able to seriously land blue chip recruits, and he was building up a pretty good recruiting momentum before he decided to leave for Michigan.

Oh, I'm not saying otherwise.

Ohio State is like Michigan. They will ALWAYS have great talent at the receiver position. It's pretty much a given.

Yeah, they have plenty of AVAILABLE receivers this year. Doesn't mean that any of them are actually any good. How many of those "plenty available receivers" had offers from Michigan or Ohio State?

Rodriguez builds his offense around the players that he has. To suggest otherwise is simply to be uneducated on the topic at hand. Go look into his background. When he first got to West Virginia he tried to throw the ball 40 times a game.

Pat White just isn't a quarterback. There is nothing that Rodriguez or his staff could ever do to turn him into a legitimate NFL QB. You've got to have the ability on some level, and he just doesn't.

Back to Pryor. With or without Pryor, Michigan will have at least 4 losses next year.

I think if Pryor came to Michigan he'd probably redshirt.

I don't think he comes to Michigan anyways.

I think they are a very serious player now, but I still think Ohio State wins out for his services in the end.

Let me put it this way. 5 days ago I would've been completely shocked if Pryor went to Michigan. Now, they are probably his second choice, but still by a pretty good sized margin.

Coach Reitz talking about TP

PG East: Jeannette deals with pressure, wins title
Thursday, December 20, 2007

By Chris Adamski, Tri-State Sports & News Service

CHAMPS!

It didn't take long after the Jeannette Jayhawks' coronation as PIAA Class AA football champions last Saturday for the debate to begin ... if it hadn't started already.

Where do these Jayhawks rank among the best teams in the school's storied history? For that matter, how would this team stack up against some of the greatest in WPIAL history?

...

While Reitz might be apprehensive to rank his team among the best in the country or in Jeannette history, he isn't as shy about saying such things about his star player, quarterback Terrelle Pryor.

Pryor, arguably the top college recruit in the country, finished his career with 4,250 yards rushing and 4,249 yards passing, the only player in Pennsylvania history to surpass 4,000 yards in each.

Reitz has been enamored with Pryor's play for some time. He was far ahead of the curve on Pryor's football ability. Two years ago, when everyone was talking about his basketball prowess, Reitz was comparing Pryor to Vince Young.

Reitz, however, is just as proud of his quarterback's intangibles.

"He was already a team guy but he became more of a team guy. Terrelle would rather make the assist than make the basket. That's the thing about him that makes him so great; he's so unselfish. He could have had a lot more records but we took him out of a lot of games.

"He didn't [complain] about it. Terrelle thrives on competition, and once he delivers the knockout punch, he moves onto the next challenge, and that's what makes the kid so great.

"He blossomed into a tremendous leader -- I mean tremendous. He just has that type of kid who wants to be the guy that has the ball in his hands when the game is on the line, whether it's football or basketball."

TP 24 pts in Jeanette hoops opener win over Freeport

Jeannette rolls to win in hoops opener

By Paul Schofield
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Thursday, December 20, 2007

Jeannette boys basketball coach Jim Nesser said he honestly didn't know what to expect Wednesday night in his team's season opener.
With only one practice under their belts and many players still on a high from winning a state football title, Nesser was just hoping for the best.
That's exactly what he got in Jeannette's solid 81-50 Section 1-AA victory over Freeport.

While Nesser was somewhat pleased with his team's performance, he knows they have a long way to go to become good.

Jeannette got 24 points from Terrelle Pryor, 16 from Jordan Hall, 15 from Shaw Sunder and 10 from Kenny Grant to cruise to an easy victory.
Pryor opened the game with the first of his six dunks. He also had 11 rebounds, 5 blocked shots and 5 assists.

"You can't be unhappy with them," Nesser said. "I'm just glad they're here. It shows me they are still hungry.

"We used this as a game/practice. We have to get into basketball shape. We just wanted to get started."

Just wanna throw something out there...

Tressel: 3 straight Big-10 titles (2 outright)
Back-to-back BCSCG appearences (3 in 6 years)
Matta: Back-to-back Big-10 titles
Bringing in sick recruiting classes for the forseeable future
National Championship game appearence

Vs.

Rodriguez: Building around his offense nearly from scratch
Beilein: Practically rebuilding from the ground up

Which sounds more appealing?

hard to understand

It seems from comments by Jenkins and Pryor that they had a love affair with richrod at wv and both were going to go there b/c they liked the offense. Also Jenkins could start from day one and Pryor would get some playing time even with White there as a senior. It seems they looked at the depth chart at tOSU and saw too many folks there. This is just my opinion. Also, I think JT while he supports these two players and is recruiting them, he wants them to want to be Buckeyes. He doesn't want to have to do a sales job b/c he not a salesman, he's a Head Football Coach. He lays it all on the table like a man and he wants the young guys that come to tOSU to go from being teenagers and evolve into young men over 3-4 years. So, whatever the outcome will be, my support for JT and the staff is unconditional, as from my vantage point, they represent OSU with great integrity and credibility. Merry Christmas to all!!!!!!!!!
