I understand that Matta has gone to see Terrelle in the company of Tressel; however, after reading an article where Tressel said that the Athletic Staff help each other out, I took it as just another example of assistance on Matta's part.

If he enrolled Winter quarter--yup--I think that he has been "promised" that he will be able to play basketball, if he so desires, at Ohio State. This is not just one coach helping out another.

Here's an idle thought: If Terrelle were to enroll early and begin classes winter quarter, could his college-choice announcement come as in "Hey, did I see Terrelle in class today?" What if there really is no announcement of his intentions to play for any certain school, rather he just announced that way, by going to class? Is this even a possibility? Just curious.

a related question.

i know athletes get varsity credits for being on a team. it's a two credit class for a quarter and can be used 4 times in 5 years. (i just graduated last march and that's how the policy went. my question is, would terrelle, if he commits here, be entitled to two sets of varsity credits? one for football and one for basketball?

Good question. I'd be interested in the answer myself.

Also, if he enrolled in January, could he play basketball immediately? That's 3 months of roundball without football obligations.

Varsity Athletes Get Class Credit (washingtonpost.com)

At Ohio State, football players can repeat Buckeyes Coach Jim Tressel's two-hour course -- SFHP 196.06 or "Varsity Football" -- as many as five times for a total of 10 credits. Last fall, 91 student-athletes were enrolled in the course, and all received "satisfactory" grades, Ohio State records show. Ohio State's online registrar showed 90 of 100 seats are taken for Tressel's class this coming fall quarter.

Ohio State offers a participation course for each of its 21 intercollegiate sports teams, including ice hockey, lacrosse, pistol and riflery. The syllabus for each of the Buckeyes' "Varsity Sports" courses includes five objectives for student-athletes, including: "To develop their skill to its highest potential" and "To learn to strive to do their best under all circumstances but to make personal goals secondary to those of the team."

Unlike Kansas State, credits from Ohio State's participation courses can't be used toward degree requirements, but at all schools, they are counted in fulfilling the NCAA's eligibility rule of six hours of academic credit each semester. Most athletic conferences require athletes to earn additional credit hours; the Big Ten Conference, for example, requires athletes to complete 12 credit hours per semester. Under NCAA rules, athletes must complete at least 18 semester hours each academic year to retain their eligibility.

I was a part in the beginnings of that cheer...it started in Block O and spread like wildfire. I honestly would be surprised if he didn't come here next year. GO BUCKEYES!!
