Jeannette (5-0, 5-0) cruised to the Interstate Conference win at McGuffey (2-3, 2-2). Jeannette, the No. 1 team in the PIAA, led 27-0 at the half. The Jayhawks' James Derry opened the scoring with a 22-yard punt return and Kenny Grant closed it with a 50-yard interception return. Jeannette quarterback Terrelle Pryor rushed seven times for 55 yards and a touchdown and completed 5 of 12 passes for 114 yards.

Terrelle may be taller and 40-yd faster, but you can't say he's a better runner based solely on his performance at the high school level.

Oh I'm not basing it on that. I am just thinking that if that running ability does translate, then for Tressel to handle him like he handled Troy would be a disservice to his running ability.

I'm not saying that it didn't work for Troy because it certainly did (Heisman, Pro QB, greatest QB in OSU history), but I think Pryor is too dangerous running with the ball in his hands to essentially take that part of his game away.

I'd love to see Tressel develop his passing game but also allow him to keep scrambling. I believe it adds a whole dimension to the offense. I've said it once already, however, I'd love to see him handled in the same way that Vince Young was handled down at Texas.

Also, I think he definitely does have the potential to be a better runner than Troy (again Troy was/is an amazing runner, don't get me wrong) based on what I have seen out of Terrelle.:osu:

Tonight's WVU game made it clear that Pat White isn't the only QB on campus. He still has work to do (the backup - name escapes me), but the job will not simply be handed to a star recruit after White leaves.

It also made it clear that Pat White isn't a very good QB. He's one heck of a runner, but take that away and he isn't even an average passer. The back up looked like he got exactly 0 reps in practice this week.

This game was a very good indication to me that if you are a QB and you go to WVU then you will get absolutely NO fundamental coaching in how to play the position of QB.

You'll be in an offense that's fun to watch, but that's about it.

You've got to think that if Pryor saw that game he went - "you're kidding me" - not a great advertisement for 'Eer football.
If he only sees the Box Score and recap though the shambles that was the WVa "O" would not register.
The "Eer backup is Jarrett Brown - two more years of eligibility post this season.

Troy was an excellent dual threat on passing plays... but his designed QB runs were not very effective against good defenses. If Pryor can avoid telegraphing his QB runs (holding ball too high), then he'll have an excellent shot at being a better runner than troy :p

Vince. I believe the ceiling for Pryor's potential is more similar to Vince (good passer, great runner) than Troy (great passer, good runner). He has a long way to go to achieve that status, I'd be thrilled landing Terrelle and watching him develop his own style.

I totally agree on everything you said. Hopefully he can come here and start his own legacy. I was only saying that I hope that he would be handled more similarly to Vince, because of Terrelle's style and potential, rather than Troy.

Not to mention having Stoney, Posey, Torrence, Sanz, Washington, and possibly Thomas, Floyd, and Scott to throw to...you have to get the ball in their hands so we aren't just going to have Pryor running it non-stop. However, I agree completely with you jwins and his biggest threat is with his legs but he can definetly throw the ball.

As far as his ability to run vs. his ability to pass, and how he would want to develop them with either tOSU or WVA, I think that tOSU has the upperhand.

IMO, it's easy to just settle and decide to let a great athlete just run the ball alot (Pat White). But it takes a great program, team, and great coaches to take that athletic ability and turn the player into a great quarterback, with accuracy, the ability to read defenses, and to make great decisions (Troy Smith). I think that Pryor knows tOSU will be able to develop him in several aspects, and wants the challenge of working to become a great pocket passer, as well as being dangerous to run the ball.

Knowing that he will want to play pro ball, he's going to want to become the best passer that he possibly can, and more than just a great athlete playing quarterback. That is why I think that tOSU has the advantage in that category.

"I like the coaches at Ohio State a lot," Terrelle Pryor said. "I talk with them a lot and we're really close. I really like (quarterback) coach Joe Daniels. He says they'd switch the system to make it fit me like they did with Troy Smith. They have a great offense and are having a really good season." How is it a disservice? Tressel will do what he can to make Pryor a quarterback, and not someone who runs a lot and just happens to take the snaps from center. When Troy focused on "pass first" he was a far more effective QB, yet his running ability was still there. The same thing will be drilled into Pryor.

Agreed 100%. Troys transformation into a pass first, run second QB won him the Heisman. It also got him drafted at 6 foot 1.

The threat of running is enough to force at least one player to spy. This will open the air up, and with threats like Gonzo and Ginn, what a waste it would have been to have Troy run all the time.
