QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

Without slamming Joe at all, let me just say that watching Braxton throw the ball is such sweetness. His release seems instantaneous. Great passer in the making.

I thought that as well last week. Really liked his form on the passes he had, especially that zinger into the end zone. I honestly think he could have a well-developed toolset by the MSU game, provided he gets a lot of reps in practice and some serious game snaps.

Disappointed we did not see Braxton in the game for a single snap but perhaps I did not have the right expectations.

Why do I feel it's going to take a Zwick esque flop in order for Braxton to be named the starter?

Ask urself this question if you were the head coach of OSU... "Would I rather break in a QB once in the next two years, or Two times in the next two years"... Get Braxton some PT because I promise you next year he could be something special for three years straight.

I am willing to bet that jet sweep thing we saw today in the first half was a little bit of giving teams some film to think about. We will see that again later this year with a fake that comes off of it.

My guess as to why we haven't seen Miller other than the two early drives a week ago is because the coaches do not feel he is ready to get it done.

To date, I have never really been very impressed with Bauserman's play. He has a very strong arm. He is athletic. He is smart.... The problem that seems to be the over riding factor is that he does not handle pressure well. His eyes drop and he loses his ability to find targets well.

That being said, I do not think Bauserman is in there for any reason other than he has a great handle on the play book and the coaches feel he gives us the best chance to win right now and in a time of suspensions and changes, ... Forget about Miller, Guiton came in with more hype than Joe. It isn't some kind of political thing with playing Bauserman. In fact, I don't really know of anyone outside of the coaches and most likely his family that are clamoring for Joe to play.

At the end of the day, I have to take the coaches word for it that Joe is the best guy to be under center right now. They are the ones who are there for practices, they are the ones who review and grade every snap each man takes in practice and in games. They are the ones who know better than I do whom should be under center on Saturdays.

If the coaches do not plan on playing Miller much more, I would rather he be red-shirted and save a year of eligibility.

I struggle to understand the strong arm part. He puts so much loft on deep balls it appears to compensate for it getting down field. My impression is it gives the DB's time to recover..?

just depends on how open and what the coverage is... If there's someone playing over top then you don't want to lob it thats for sure.

One other thing looking at photo's of braxton anyone notice how insanely high his release is? I bet he won't have many passes batted down, and I think that's what's going to make him such a accurate QB. Joe's delivery is sidearm almost all the time which I think can create problems with consistency.

Didn't that happen today?

Yep. I recall that first deep ball to Verlon Reed in the endzone where he had his man beat by a step or 2... Joe seemed to step in and put his entire body into the throw, almost resembling a curl hop that an outfielder would do in baseball. It took forever, and it was ultimately a very late release and an underthrown ball, as the safety and corner caught up and broke it up.

I really wanted to see Brax today. Obviously the coaching staff knows more than I do, but Miller is one of the top 5 athletes on the team at this point and needs to touch the ball. I know he's a true freshman, but when we start playing some good defenses we are going to need him.......badly. Fickell needs to remember that people are more forgiving when it's a freshman making mistakes over a Senior.......plus the senior (26 year old in this case) is probably capped out in ability, whereas the true freshman is simply scratching the surface.

My concern is: Who is coaching up/grooming Braxton on the sidelines as the game goes on? It seems like Fickell is preoccupied with the defense at most times and I thought I read somewhere that Siciliano sits up on the booth now. From what I've heard there has been a lot of Braxton being a bit isolated on the sidelines and not being involved as much. I understand that he's advanced for a freshman skill wise but if he's going to be needed as much as he probably will be soon it seems worrisome that he's not being prepared as much as possible now that the redshirt is burned.

That's why I think it's imperative that you script certain snaps for Braxton so that his skillset is a compliment to Joe while he is the unquestioned starter rather than a challenger.

And when the game doesn't flow as you might expect, you don't stubbornly throw the kid in because god bless it, we scripted a series for him.

Or you can do what Fickell did and adapt. Losing out on one drive is not going to affect Miller long term...heck look at Tebow's freshman year where he did nothing but act as a goal-line fullback. There was a 9-game stretch with five <7 point wins and a loss for the Gators, and TT threw 11 passes in that time. For an offense averaging 22 ppg.

My point is not to compare Tebow to Miller or Leak to Bauserman, but I take issue with those who think Braxton deserves snaps regardless of the game situation (which could possibly be detrimental to the team).
