QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

Recruiting heat just starting for Wayne QB
By Kyle Nagel, Staff Writer
Thursday, February 4, 2010

On signing day, arguably the most important day since he was hired as the Notre Dame football coach and before he officially announced his first recruiting class, Brian Kelly was trying to get on the phone with Braxton Miller.

Jim Tressel, too, was trying to talk with Miller, the Wayne High School quarterback who is also one of the hottest recruits in the Class of 2011.

As we digest the group of signings Wednesday, Feb. 3, that sent local players to their college commitments, we also ready ourselves for what could be a wild few months of coaches coming after Miller.

Wayne coach Jay Minton has said he doesn?t think Miller will take his decision down to the wire. He already has offers from many of the country?s elite programs, so he won?t have to wait for the offer he wants.

In a weird twist, we all saw that winning the Rose Bowl actually did absolutely nothing to help with our recruiting efforts to close out 2010. However, I think the Rose Bowl did one giant thing for us: show Braxton Miller that Ohio State can develop him.
All season long, people questioned whether Terrelle Pryor made the right choice by committing to Ohio State over a school that would run a spread offense like he was used to. But when the Rose Bowl rolled around, a completely different quarterback took the field than what we'd seen to that point. In the span of a few hours, all the questions about Tressel's ability to turn him into an NFL ready quarterback were out the window. Now all the Heisman talk is back on the table, and the speculation about who our quarterback will be after next year has sparked again, as people suddenly feel he has a strong chance to be a high draft pick if he continues to play at the level he displayed in Pasadena.
This has to be a great sign to high school quarterbacks. Pryor said he chose Ohio State to learn a more pro-style offense. Braxton was said earlier in the season to be keeping a close eye on his development, as he himself would like to be groomed into an NFL-ready quarterback. Tressel's strong support of Pryor through the midseason struggles showed The Vest's commitment to the word he gave his quarterback.
In sharp contrast, look at Tim Tebow. The golden boy of the hot program right now, it has suddenly become very clear to NFL analysts that he is nowhere near an NFL-ready quarterback. His mechanics are awful, his delivery is too slow, he doesn't know the footwork, he can't take a snap from under center... the criticisms are aplenty. In the 4 years he shined with Florida, Urban Meyer has never helped him in regards to life after college. Rather than risk the growing pains that Ohio State has absorbed, Meyer let Tebow work the way he was comfortable, regardless of the fact that it means Tebow is now struggling to find a position to play in The League.
So when Braxton weighs his college options, Ohio State should be sitting pretty. He knows he'd be playing for a coach who will not only prepare him for an eventual career, but a coach who will stick by him when the going is tough. And possibly by the time he enrolls, playing for a fanbase who wants to see the 3rd Heisman Trophy presented to a Quarterback under The Vest.

People assume bowl results matter to recruits but looking at the results they typically don't. Look at our class after we wont he national title, probably our worst class in the last decade. I think somebody did some research on this a few months ago and started a thread with their results and it showed bowl results are virtually meaningless.

Where bowl games and other high profile games matter is down the road with kids who are a 2 or so years behind in class and are starting to really take a look at schools.

If the results of the games never mattered then you would see more 4* and 5* recruits go to non-powerhouse schools.

All of these may not have had anything to do with the Rose Bowl, but:
1. We did not lose any player that committed prior to the Rose Bowl
2. We received 3 commitments after the Rose Bowl and they signed
3. Currently the favorite for a couple of 2011 recruits with offers

They don't matter with the recruiting class that signs that year all I was saying is all I was saying. Obviously winning matters in the long run.

Rivals $ - Video: How does Braxton stack up?

If you're a coach running the spread option, watching this clip will have you salivating... Mostly called runs & break contain plays where Miller is making plays with his legs... There is one clip where Miller throws (with ease) a bomb from his own 30 & the receiver catches it on the opposing 10 yd line!
