QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

Fickell gave Joe chance after chance after chance to prove himself. When you go 2/14 with time to throw, against a defense that allowed 300+ passing yards to a school with half our offensive talent, that's the last straw, and it shouldn't even be a discussion. I don't understand anyone getting bothered by this decision.

I was wondering if someone could help me out? Since Miller is starting I do not want to miss watching the game, but I am stationed in germany and they will not be showing the game on the Armed Forces Network. Does anyone know a way to watch over the internet (ex. Buckeyevision or something?). Any help would be really appreciated.

Can you get ESPN3 out there? That is online.

My outside view is that S&G's post is a very reasonable statement of the current situation. Nor is it a reason to dog Baus. Better to thank him for all of his hard work, and have him ready again if Miller stumbles even worse.

The backup QB is always the most popular guy on any team that struggles on offense. That's not a uniquely OSU thing.

Some things become cliches because they are true. That a backup QB's popularity is often at it's apogee the day before his first start is one of those cliches.

Is anyone bothered by this decision? I see no evidence of this.

I think people confuse criticism of someone's play with personal criticism. The only thing that irritated me about JoeB, the person, was the laughing on the sideline in the 4th quarter. In retrospect, we don't know what the circumstances were, so I'm over that.

Aside from that, I don't think fans should have to apologize or feel bad about critiquing his bad quarterback play. I'm sure he would tell you the same thing. 2/14 isn't good enough.

And from what Fickell said, he took the demotion with class and he deserves respect for that. Hopefully he helps out Braxton with whatever he can.

So I guess it wasn't handled this way with Joe, after all. Good.

Looking forward to seeing Braxton open the game at QB!

I may be the biggest Bauserman supporter out there, but I am absolutely not bothered by this decision. If I were Fickell, I'd have a very tough time keeping the ball in Bauserman's hands, and that's with me knowingly wanting Bauserman to succeed. The only thing that Bauserman has over Miller is the 0 turnovers thing, and I'm in the old-school mindset that turnovers are about the worst thing a team can do, and I STILL find it hard to choose Bauserman over Miller.

Good luck, Braxton. I hope you only take about 80% of the snaps, because the last 20% happen with Ohio State up by about 31 and Bauserman gets some more playing time.

To me benching Bauserman is kinda like firing Jim Tressel (or forcing him to retire, whatever). I like them both, I'm sure they put their heart and soul into what they did and I wish things worked out a little better toward the end. I can't defend either of them keeping their jobs though.

So with it said that Braxton will have the start lets play devils advocate here.

If Braxton comes out and has a fumble or two, as well as an interception and the offense looks a bit inept in the QB position will all the BM supporters give him a pass?

Seems to me that everyone is certainly capable of bringing up Joe's dismal performance but as soon as you meantion that Braxton fumbled the ball or threw incomplete passes (forcing yet another punt) people get butt hurt and make excuses. It will be interesting to see the excuses fly this week when Braxton looks a bit green in the pocket. I get it that the kid has GOOD size, speed, and what SEEMS to be a decent arm against high school opponents (Akron included), but I guess everyone calling him to be our savior will get their wish to check out his game in both an average (Colorado) as well as sizable (Mich State) test in the coming weeks.

People have more tolerance for Braxton's mistakes because they see the bigger picture--he gets experience this year and makes mistakes, they'll pay off next year or the year after. Joe B makes the same mistakes this year, it won't help--his eligibility is up after this season.

People clamoring for Braxton are doing so for the future good of the program at least as much as they think he gives us a better chance to win this year. It's all about the future good of the program.

EDIT: I see that several other posters have already responded with a post that is, in substance, the same as mine. I would, however, like to see all of these posts of "everyone calling him to be our savior." Care to provide a link?

Yeah, I don't think I ever once said he was the "savior" for the program. I have definitely said that I would rather watch Braxton turning the ball over and seeing real growth over rollouts to the sidelines with passes to the water cooler, or looking like a statue as the pocket collapses and tucking the ball to accept a sack. I've been highly critical of Bauserman's play, but his play has been highly questionable and his performance less than acceptable at the level I would expect a 5th year senior who has been in the program 5 years now, previous backup or starter.

Bring on the mistakes, and bring on the extra layer that defenses have to account for.
