That’s always been my take as well.
He’s very comparable throwing the ball as McCord was but the big difference is Howard is a 6 foot 4 245 pound battering ram with a knack of finding the end zone with his feet. He has the speed as well to make teams pay. Maybe he’s not the home run threat of Braxton or Justin Fields, but he’s got enough speed to run the read option and do damage.
As the video points out, Howard wasn’t playing with a strong supporting cast either. So putting up comparable numbers without a Marvin like McCord had has to mean something.

I'd take McCord-like passing if he's a gamer who can run the ball for first downs and touchdowns and open up the run game for RB1 and 1A.

I agree with all the stuff you said that I cut out, but I cut it out where I thought was the important part.
I've said here before: McCord was better than people gave him credit for. He wasn't CJ Stroud, or Justin Fields. But he wasn't Bellisari, and I think people treated him as though he was. I mean, Krenzel won a championship with worse stats than what McCord had.
But, back on topic: If Howard (or whoever starts) can be McCord passing the ball, and is productive running the ball, we have no excuse to not win all the games.

McCord's major problem was the mental aspect IMO. He was fine enough as a passer from the arm/throwing stand point, but he just didn't see the game fast enough to be more than "ok" overall.
Howard seems like a guy who sees the field well and quickly and makes quick decisive decisions. That's what we need with the playmakers we have.

Based on some tweets after the spring game, it seems like the main difference in the passing game between the 2 is that Howard has pocket presence and his mechanics don't fall apart under pressure. That alone is big and should help to keep more drives alive.
Prior to Day, he definitely would've been appreciated more as he wasn't bad, but wasn't good enough to execute Day's passing game against elite teams. Him passing over guys in the intermediate or deep only to bounce the ball at Egbuka's feet against Michigan was painful.

A McCord-level arm paired with a legit threat to run (paired with a legit threat to Cardale your safety if you don’t spy him with a linebacker) should open up the pass game and allow for better passing efficiency and better red zone efficiency

I think we were pretty fair with McCord.. we recognized him as a good QB but with the engine around him he was not elite...
It was a case of over expectation on our part... which is to Howards benefit
because he comes in with under expectations if anything

Agreed. It'll probably be Will to start though. If he falters, and I don't think he will, Sayin could be an immediate solution. No offense to Brown or LK, but Sayin has jumped them in all likelihood because he's an unreal talent and got in early.

Too soon old, too late smart
Let us not forget that McCord's problem was that he wasn't Justin, CJ, or Braxton. After driving a Ferrari, climbing into a Range Rover has got to be a letdown. Whatever McCord's technical problems were/are, we've got coaches for those things. Not saying issues weren't addressed, but clearly the teaching didn't "take". Anyway, hope he does well for the Orange, he seemed a good person. Am betting that regardless of what Day says, the competition goes into the early season. Both QBs get their minutes, and we'll have some live action to see who floats to the surface. Also believe that Sayin gets mop up minutes, as he seems to be the heir apparent. Hate to leave out Kleinholtz and Air, let alone Brown, but we've gotta 'win that old conference now' or bust. Maybe we could start an tOSU Lancaster or somesuch, and move a whole team there to compete in the B10? Lousiana does it, so why not us? Some say it's a good problem to have, but for $8 million a year, pressure to make the right decision has got to keep one up at night. Go Bucks!

For all the comparisons to McCord I am surprised the O Line performance isn’t mentioned. It’s almost a given it will be better this year considering how bad it was at times for McCord.
If Howard has better pocket presence and gets just a half second more time than McCord that’s a huge difference
