QB Will Howard (Official Thread)

I see a ton of people going “eh” with this transfer and they’re really off base here.
Same 24TD/10INT ratio that Kyle had but there’s two things that are different. First, Will doesn’t have the talent around him like he will here. Second, he ran for NINE touchdowns last year (has like 19 rushing TDs for his career btw). So yes he didn’t throw for as many yards (I think this is because of the WRs at Kansas State) but he scores points. When you have a defense like ours? Points are what we need. The hell with yards… give me a kid that finds the end zone.
Will Howard is 6’5 245 pounds and is by far more explosive than any QB we have. Go watch his 70 yard touchdown vs Texas this year for example. He pulled away from that defense and that’s something none of our guys can do.
I’m really really excited for this kids arrival!

Just sayin': At 245 lbs you aren't gong to bring him down with an "arm tackle" either.

Damn I’m so pumped up for this guy.

If we get our defense back like it’s rumored then we don’t need a CJ Stroud performance to win it all. That said, If Howard can put up nine more touchdowns than McCord without the talent around him he’s in for a big time year.

Give me a kid who’s not going to be denied near the goal line. Our red zone numbers should sky rocket, Henderson should find a ton more room to operate and play action should see a huge boost too.

Can’t wait. Now just go shore up that offensive line and woah look out if our defense returns.

Other major programs were after Howard too (USC really wanted him) these people who want to talk up McCord if he was so great why was his best option Syracuse? All you gotta do is actually watch the tape and Howard is clearly the better player.
Some have said his reads aren't great. That was most of our concerns with McCord. Some of that may have been a result of KSU's scheme, and lack of weapons to throw to. But something to watch out for.

I am excited about the kid. Hopefully this is the last time we have to hit the portal and develop in house better.

Interesting player.

Mobility wise he reminds us of another K-State kid, Optimus Klein. But at the same time I think he's a little taller and heavier, so you get natural size comparison to someone like Cardale. Although he lacks the absolute cannon for a right arm 12G had.

Shows some nice shoulder and foot sync while climbing the pocket as routes develop downfield. When he hits his back foot on drops, looks like good weight distribution and balance. Has some nice touch while throwing off platform and away from pressure. I do question some of his eye movement when he isn't throwing off play action though.

Color me intrigued and on-board. I've had a soft spot for K-State since Bill Snyder in the early 2000's. I've liked that program, their players and their brand of ball. No nonsense and hardwork. Although this likely means a departure from either Air or Link depending on who gets beat out for the #2 spot.

Now.... about that Oline.

edit: Can't help but feel this, plus Oline improvements, would indicate an offensive shift back to a mentality that is running game driven similar to that 2019 squad.

JMO, but I think this has to be exciting AF for TreyVeon. The amount of space Howard can open for him is exciting…..would love to see them together next year. Would be like Deuce Vaughn on Super Steroids!!!!

Howard solves 2 problems with our run game. The backside DE won't be automatically crashing down the LOS and tackling our RB for no gain on the stretch zone runs and short yardage issues will be a lot easier

Add in a run-blocking oriented TE (the kid from Ohio) and you now have your lead edge blocker...something Gee Scott singularly failed to be.

This won't effect Noland at all. There is no way that Air was starting here next year. Brown on the other hand. He may duke it out in the spring, but wouldn't be surprised if he goes.

OSU needs to get another depth back up just in case that happens.
