We also only run the "read option" about twice a game......NOT EVERY PLAY like Texas. I can remember two TD's in the Michigan State game coming off of that play.

Lmao about that deep-ball comment. T Smith has a bigger cannon for an arm then most qb's out there, they just discredit it because he has the legs to rush as well. They go by the steriotype of, if you can scramble good, you can't throw that good, thanks to Vick.

On the Fiesta Bowl bomb to Ginn, Troy takes a seven-step drop, sets up, and releases the ball in less than 3 seconds. Troy is standing on the OSU 37, and hits Ginn in stride between the 1 and the goal line. The hangtime on that 63 yard pass is about 3 seconds.

Not much to update on Troy but just throwing on a tidbit.
Drew Carter was on ESPNNews yesterday night (talking about the Pathers upcomming season) and was asked about the Buckeyes and Troy Smith.
When asked what is his prediction on the Buckeyes 2006 season, he said we would go unblemished with a National Title. Carter promclaimed, at OSU "we dont rebuild, we reload."
When asked if he knew Troy would become (in 2002) the leader he is today, Carter said he knew it from the moment he saw Troy passing the ball at practice. He said that Troy had a stronger arm than the other QBs on the team and was throwing more accurate as well. Carter then noted that he worked out with Troy 2 weeks ago at OSU and said that Troy was ready for the season to get underway and looked like a poised leader.

Obviously this thread is about Troy Smith, so this is an off-topic comment, but....
I love Drew Carter. I always thought he had some horrible luck with injuries and depth chart issues, but he was awesome. Now that he's in the pros, all you hear about him is praise of some sort or another from various talking heads claiming he is very talented and is a speed demon as well as a legitimate WR talent and deep ball threat. Its nice to see a good guy like Drew Carter have success
Now back to your regularly scheduled Troy Smith thread....
It is awesome to hear people, even homers and former players, say that Troy looks completely poised and ready to lead this team to greatness. Regardless of the results of the upcoming season, Troy Smith has already proven himself to be an outstanding young man. Someone who has not only learned from his mistakes, but has also matured because of them and accepts the mantle of responsibility for his actions, for his performance, and for his own expectations. He has become the type of man and leader we all hope our sons to be.
This all speaks directly to the quality of person, not only Troy Smith is, but also to Jim Tressel and the expectations of being associated with THE Ohio State University. Now if only the Board of Trustees could pull their heads from their rear-sides when they hire the next University President!!! LOL.

What is almost equally amazing is that Ginn got down the field 63 yards in pads and a helmet, and beat a defender in about 6 seconds.

I'm not against Brady Quinn. He is from Dublin and people from Dublin are all THAT bad.
But I don't understand how he can be viewed as anything but an above average college quarterback. You watch the OSU v. ND game and he had a lot of off target passes. He certainly didn't have the strenth or the agility on par with Vince Young. To give Quinn credit, he did stick in the pocket tough and took some hard hits. He also made some good quick reads.
Smith just seems so much more well rounded. I forgot how many clutch plays he made in the Fiesta Bowl. People remember the bomb to TGII, but he was wide open. That bomb to Holmes had amazing touch. But he made a great swing pass in the 4th quarter to Pittman on a 3 and 11 for a first. Also, that play where he evaded the rushers and spun to get it to Gonzo was amazing! Yes, it was versus ND and not scUM.
Anyone who watched that game would know who the better QB is no doubt about it.
