QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

PFT posted a story about there being a "bombshell" report about the Broncos and Brandon Marshall. He wants a trade or a new contract. Some dude commented on PFT and said Marshall was going to Baltimore for Troy Smith and a future pick. I'm pretty sure he's just making shit up, but it's an interesting thought. I think I remember Baltimore having interest in Marshall. Even if that's me imagining things, I'd imagine that they'd be interested.

The Ravens also just signed Cleo Lemon. Flacco/Smith/Beck/Lemon - not sure how serious Beck's injury is, but Lemon is a legit backup and having both he and Smith with one of them inactive seems unnecessary.

The Broncos obviously need a QB. Orton looks like he's still pretty bad even with good protection and good offensive talent. Simms hasn't played for two years.

It would make sense. Baltimore would have to give more than Smith and a pick though, unless the pick is a 1st.

Rumors from Ravens training camp

It's juicy rumor time, because this is the time in preseason when you hear all the good stuff. In the last week, I've heard about the Ravens being serious players for Michael Vick, but the Ravens said no.

I've also heard the Ravens are interested in trading for Denver receiver Brandon Marshall. Two names mentioned as possible trades from Baltimore are quarterback Troy Smith and/or receiver Demetrius Williams, and/or possibly a second round pick. A lot of the speculation stems from the Ravens having five quarterbacks in training camp and that could mean a possible trade.

When you get to the second game of the preseason, it all starts to heat up. Ideally, you want the players who will make the roster in to play the second and third preseason game, and have the option of playing them in game 4. I suspect the Ravens are pouring over the list of available receivers, but it's hard to gauge the interest at this time. What's intriguing, though, are the rumors. By next week, it's really going to get heavy.

Denver's QB depth chart

QB 8 K.Orton 2 C. Simms 3 T. Brandstater
McDaniels seems to be a my way or the highway guy, could be a good thing if he wants Smith in there; or Troy could get there and sit in a potential mess of a football team this year.

Orton had a terrible outing in their scrimmage against SF...9/16 for 89 yards and 3 INTs. Simms went 11/17 for 142 and 2 TDs. I've never thought either one of these guys was starting QB materiel...Troy on the other hand...:)

I don't think I particularly want Troy to be traded to the Disfunctionalville Broncos.

McDaniels is doing some pretty odd things, but there's still talent there and he'd probably get to start. I'm all for it. There's more talent in Denver on offense compared to Baltimore IMO. After Marshall gets traded, the WRs are still better than Baltimore (Eddie Royal is going to be a beast), Tony Scheffler is a good pass-catching TE. The offensive line is actually pretty good (stud LT). Knowshon and the rest of the RBs should do an admirable job.

The defense fucking sucks. So does the coach.

As a recovering Brownaholic, it would be great to see Troy go to a team that isn't despised in Cleveland.

You apparently don't remember the 1986, 87, or 89 AFC championship games, huh? Just because Cleveland has been irrelevent since then doesn't mean there isn't history. Just sayin....

well that means a lot of shootouts - it's not like the AFC west has a bunch of good defenses. The best one may be San Diego and they got lit up with regularity last year as I remember.

San Diego should be better this year with Merriman back and Cromartie healthy. I think I remember them being above average the year before? Could be wrong. They're still pretty weak at safety.

I actually think that division is going to be a lot better than they were last year.. a lot better is still not great keep in mind. :tongue2:

I just want to see Troy start somewhere. Thought he would've been a good fit in Minnesota, and still think he'd be a better fit than anyone on SF's roster. But for some reason the Niners refuse to go after a QB who looks like he could be a potential starter. Shaun Hill + Alex Smith + Nate Davis = the worst group of QBs in the league.

Simms is going to give Orton all he can handle for starting position. That doesn't say a lot. Smith would have a legitimate shot to do something in Denver. It's going to take some time to build a team there, but it would be nice to see him as the starting QB.
