QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

I know that TS has the most TD passes in a single season as an OSU QB. What is his career TD and how far away is he from the career leader? Does he have any chance of surpassing that?

Also, what are his yards total? I think Schlichter has most yards. Has he become the 2nd highest passer in OSU history?

Holybuckeye33's record thread

Not yet updated with the TSUN game stats, so......

Troy now has 54 TD passes, 3 short of Bobby Hoying's career record of 57.

For passing yards, he moved past Tomczak for 6th all time and should pass Bellisari for 5th all-time, ending at near 6,000 yards. Schlicter ended with 7,547.

He could end up 2nd in total career yards behind Art and should end up with the 3rd most passing yards for a season.

ESPN's Bruce Feldman responds to the Hoover/Tulsa World 'Smith is a cheater and I don't vote for cheaters' rant ...

http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=feldman_bruce#20061121

Troy Smith will run away with the Heisman, but the Tulsa World's John Hoover won't be voting for him:

"The Ohio State quarterback has gained college football immortality, thanks to a fantastic season, talented teammates and a monumental group effort by ESPN to make sure he wins the Heisman. But I will not vote for Smith, because he is a cheater, and I have no room on my ballot for those who break the rules. I tried cheating once. I won. It felt like kissing a skeleton. Yes, I was getting kissed, but by what?"

I should be the last person to rip anyone for off-the-wall analogies, so I'll let the kissing thing pass, but I disagree about Smith not being deserving. OSU and the NCAA have allowed Smith to play; therefore he is eligible for the award and has handled himself in nothing but an impressive fashion this year, both on and off the field. And, for what it's worth, I never got the company e-mail with the mandate to push Smith for the Heisman. Then again, as Buckeye fans will remind you, ESPN has been shilling for the OSU program ever since Jim Tressel took over.

Can we stop with the height debates? I guarantee you he's atleast 6'0". I'll even go all in on a vbet. In high school he was measured that at a combine. I'll even provide the link if you want.

I'd like to see the link...he did not attend a Rivals or Scout Combine. Is it from the Elite 11 camp?

I am 6' 5" and I played ball against Teddy and Troy in an OSU intramural league winter of 2005. I highly doubt Troy is even 6'. He may have grown a little since then but I doubt it. I am proud to say I was able to beat two heisman candidates at something. I can tell my kids about that one day way way down the road; hopefully!

Smith, Quinn, Brennan named O'Brien finalists

SportsTicker
College Football News Wire

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Troy Smith and Brady Quinn have
excelled in the spotlight all season. Colt Brennan has done so
with few people watching.

Brennan, a junior who is putting up spectacular numbers for
Hawaii, Ohio State's Smith and fellow senior Quinn of Notre Dame
on Tuesday were named finalists for the Davey O'Brien Award,
which is presented annually to the nation's best college
quarterback.

The national leader in passing efficiency (189.6), Brennan has
completed 303-of-419 passes for 4,155 yards and 48 touchdowns
with just eight interceptions. The Californian needs six
touchdowns in his final two games to tie the NCAA single-season
mark of 54 set by Houston's David Klingler in 1990.

Smith has led the top-ranked Buckeyes to a perfect regular
season and a berth in the Bowl Championship Series title game.
The Cleveland native has gone 199-of-297 for 2,507 yards and 30
touchdowns with a mere five interceptions.

Quinn, who grew up near Ohio State's campus, has completed
252-of-387 passes for 3,004 yards, 32 TDs and five interceptions
for the Fighting Irish, who visit third-ranked Southern
California on Saturday in a game with BCS implications.

The finalists were selected by a committee of sportswriters and
broadcasters, as well as former O'Brien winners. The winner
will be announced as part of ESPN's Home Depot College Football
Awards Show on December 7.
