QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

If Troy wins the Heisman, I'm going to assume the Bucks had a pretty successful year. That would mean beating scUM (again!), and winning a BCS game (again!) 3-0 vs. scUM, 2 BCS wins, the Heisman trophy... that's a pretty damn impressive resume. I think they would retire it.

The Heisman is awarded before the BCS games are played, but since the Buckeyes are 4-0 in them, you may be safe in assuming a BCS win in this situation. :wink2:

It is amazing how Troy Smith has progressed. I was always a skeptic but he has just made amazing improvement on not locking in on WR's, only running when he has too, and his accuracy has improved a lot. I think it's legitimate to have Quinn above Smith in pre-season though. Quinn is a great QB as well but I think when they lose 2-3 games this year, Smith will be the front runner.

Edit: It's legitimate to say the two are interchangable is more what I meant. I could see either as an early favorite for the Heisman.

2005 Brady Quinn QB rating: 158.70

2005 Troy Smith QB rating: 162.66

I think Troy has shown more leadership too, he is more mature, and makes wiser decisions. Though Brady threw way more TD passes than Troy, Troy threw less interceptions, and was able to ditribute the ball better. They both completed about the same percentage of their passes, so I think Troy is the front-runner

But give Charlie Weis 11 months to prepare a Heisman campaign...... :tongue2:

So I said it...

So I said it on the Kiper's thread and will say it here.

TS is the next Steve Young. Comparisons to Black QB's bogus. Troy has all of the tools to be a HOF QB. I say he goes top 10.

Maybe not...but that's his mark. Steve Young had a tough road to success an maybe Troy does too. But given his talent, dedication, charisma and leadership ability I say he wins the Heisman, goes top 10 and eventually takes a team to the SB.

There I said it.

Can we let him complete his senior year as a Buckeye before we start making Steve Young comparisons??? He still has alot of CFB left to play, besides who is to say he gets Jerry Rice, the best WR ever, to catch his passes.

Troy has improved bunches

Just a quick FWIW.......got a bit bored, put on the 2004 OSU vs Meatchicken game (where Troy had his breakout game), and put on the OSU vs Notre Dame.

Wow! The Meatchicken game was good, but it was all talent (helped along with his friends) on his part. Then the Notre Dame game, did he look POLISHED! The fake QB draw, put his foot out, draw it back into a throwing set-up, and boom. Right on target.

Gotta give credit to that kid, he came from almost not qualifying for D-I to being named as a Heisman hopeful. His interviews sound very polished also. It'll be a great story to read when it's all over, so folks, watch history being made.

On another note, saw an article how some of the sportscasters noted how much Troy had grown versus Henne, and how well he (Troy) had been 'coached up'. That has to make some of the recruits take notice.

All I have to say is...if we rock Texas and Troy is a key player (most likely if we do beat them)...then be prepared to see him on SI with some sort of "This Year's Vince" quote.

We have had our fair share of SI covers over the last few years, but I could easily see another as we are also #1 in many pre-season polls as well.

In a strange coincidence, I too have recently watched both of these games, and I have to agree. The one pass in the 04 Michigan game that I absolutely love ... well, two.. really.. but the one is where he's rolling right, and throws a strike to Ginn (towards the end of the 1H) ABC replays the throw and you can see Troy in what I'd call perfect form. (Incidently, the other pass I love is the TD to Holmes... but that was more Holmes than Smith - that is Holmes' route was one of the best short routes run all year)

In any event, watched the Fiesta last night, and you're right Troy looked very sharp (And lets not forget, the Fiesta sharpness built off of his sharpness in the 05 Michigan game, where he also looked extremely good throwing the ball). He was particularly impressive in the 3rd down conversion before Pittman put the game away - a pass to Gonzo.

A word on Henne - as you recall, when he was a Freshman, all the talking heads were as high on Henne as any other Freshman in the nation. I can say, 2 years later, the kid has not improved at all, and maybe has gone backwards. No question he's a D-I talent, but I don't see any improvement whatever in his game. Of course, I don't watch every snap he takes, so, take my opinion for what its worth.
