QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

which should also shut up all the people here who say he isn't doing well in practice...

Except he also said that Justin and Todd had excelelnt weeks too... I don't know why it would "shut up" anyone anyway... Those people are just quoting coach Tressel.

Here's the one thing I can't understand.... getting emotional about the QB situation isn't going to help... arguing about Belisari and McMullen and Krenzel makes no sense either... (Also.. the "McMullen is a better practice QB than Krenzel" is a farce McMullen I'm sure was a better passer.. no shit... but McMullen got Yanked in that Illinois Game becaseu he wasn't making the right decisions... simple as that.. Krenzel did, and then he won a lot of games)

But none of that matters... The one reason we need to get Troy in the game is because... we need him to have experience... I still beleive the plan is to try to beat Metchicken, Win a bowl game and have a pretty good club next year... we just might need more than one QB....

Tressel said that Smith has had his best week of practice since before the season started this week....which should also shut up all the people here who say he isn't doing well in practice...

You can also read that the other way because it implies that he did something this week that he hasn't been doing recently.

See, you didn't shut me up. :)

From Tressel's recent comments, I believe we may well see some of Smith against Iowa tomorrow.....whether it is significant or not, I don't know, but Tressel said that Smith has had his best week of practice since before the season started this week....which should also shut up all the people here who say he isn't doing well in practice...
nice post.
Lets hope it shuts them up. But they will only find something else NEGATIVE TO BITCH ABOUT. But yea I think your right JT did sound like he may play him. He has never been one to be pressured in to making a decision about who or what to play. However, He will.... as we have seen in the past try to be fair when making decsions. He tends to looks to the future when it comes down to his decisions. I think he realizes it's about next year, knowing very well that we cant possibly win any championship or tital with this young squad.

It seems all of this public talk of practice performance might have lit something under TS. Now this is all speculation but it would be very human.

TS is neck and neck with JZ, JZ gets the nod and TS only sees a few series against Cinci and then only 1 series with Marshall. Maybe the frustration hits TS and he had a few weeks of not so good practice. (just speculating) But you saw the frustration with those quotes a few weeks ago when TS spoke out. Tressel talks about how practice lets you earn playing time renewing TS's energy.

Now all of the sudden this week he has a great week of practice? Coincidence? I don't think so.

Not all of them. No offense, but it has come out recently that other players respect Smith's ability, and have said he has practiced well. Tress also said that he thinks Smith has simply just been pressing too much, and this week he was playing more relaxed, and a lot faster. Sounds good.....to me, it sounds like maybe Smith is on his way to moving out of the doghouse. We'll see...as for the practice "quotes" of Jim Tressel, I feel that is as much speculation as the other side saying that Smith would do a better job. Tressel has NEVER said Smith isn't practicing well, he's simply said that playing time is earned in practice, inferring that Zwick practices better than Smith. Maybe, maybe not, but it's more telling to me that, according to Tressel, Smith and Zwick were neck and neck until the UC game. I still think this is a case of Smith being in Tressel's doghouse for the last month or so.

Sounds like heresay to me. :wink2: See my above comments about what Tressel said. He never has said Smith hasn't been practicing well, but that he has been "pressing too much". I like the fact that Tressel mentions the pace, and implied that Smith is playing much quicker.

i want to be a buckeye quarterback and i was always a good leader and a gamer.....how many series do you think i should get in the iowa game??
i'd like at least two to show my stuff.....anyone else want a series or two??

people arguing for smith are probably the same ones who dont believe that a score should be kept during the games either....wouldnt want to damage little jimmy's confidence....everyone gets a trophy and every gets to play...yeahh....

From Hooley's Column the other day.

Tressel said he does not remember when Zwick pulled ahead of Smith, but said it occurred sometime during spring practice or fall camp.

Smith, however, exited fall camp close enough to Zwick to merit one first-half series and the entire fourth quarter of the season-opener against Cincinnati, then played one series in game two against Marshall.

He has not played since.

"I think Troy earned the opportunity to play in those two games," Tressel said. ". . . Was there anything Troy did in the Marshall game [to merit being permanently benched]? No, not that I can recall. . . . We evaluate every series, every quarter, every game, every staff meeting, who should do what we're trying to do and it's believe it or notthat simple."

Asked what Smith must do to get more playing time, Tressel said: "He would need to perform better than Justin and Todd Boeckman in practice."

Hey DiHard, if you're gonna attack me, can't you at least use some colorful language?:wink2: Oh, yeah, you're trying to quit...

I'm not necessarily saying Smith should start, or even that he's earned PT. I would like to see him play, but that's more for me....at the same time, I do think that there is more to the story than what Tressel has said so far...but that's really irrelevant. Whoever is QB, they need to play better than what we have seen so far this season. Maybe all Zwick needs is a shot of confidence....but maybe Smith would do a lot better.....seems like an awful lot of "maybe". What do I know, I'm just a paintchip addict...
