Love this kid and his grit. Feel bad the situation he's in. Don't blame him for looking at his options. His clock is ticking.

Oh neat. You answered your own question. If you take a step back, how is Tate's handling of this situation much different than D. Nestor or any of the previously committed HS kids .... "I came here to play for Urban and want to see what the new staff has to say about their philosophy and my role. In the meantime, I am going to re-open my recruiting and see if my skill set, and my comfort level, fits in better at another school."
(This, obviously, disregards the shenanigans with Twitter bio edits and wallpaper changes)
By "idiocy" do you mean Troy Smith's stubborn refusal to learn the offense or to study film until after the 2005 loss at Penn State? Because that shit was all on him. He admitted that he was "just ballin'" and wasn't taking things seriously until after PSU in '05.Ugh. That idiocy cost us a Natty.
No one's upset about or even really questioning his decision to transfer. If you take a step back, how is Tate's handling of this situation much different than D. The fact that I’d never heard of “he’s ass, my dude” before this week, is ass, my dude....Also, this thread is ass, my dude.
I'm a graphics kind of guy. TTIWWP.The fact that I’d never heard of “he’s ass, my dude” before this week, is ass, my dude.
I don't think they were signalling that he he would be / is Haskins' replacement by working him into the offense early in the season. I think they were doing that just to see if they can get him involved and to see what would happen and how defenses would react if they put yet another playmaker on the field. What ended up happening is that with Tate in the game our offense basically became one-dimensional, so the coaches mothballed that tactic. My IMO...The coaching staff did making an effort to work Tate in during meaningful series against some of our easier opponents this year. I can't remember the last time an Ohio State staff did that for the backup QB. By most accounts it seem like they were grooming him to take over for Haskins once he left.
I think that's why he was so cocky and surprise by the staff bring in Fields. The staff's actions basically said the starting job next year is yours to Tate if Haskins leaves.

Or not
Honestly if he's going to transfer if Fields is eligible, as a fan I'd take the gamble and want him to transfer now, not after the spring. All of his reps can now be split between Fields and Tate, and you have a larger pool of transfer candidates if you want to get back to 4 guys in the room.Still hoping he stays and competes at least through the spring...if not I'll wish him luck and watch him thrive elsewhere, because he will put up numbers wherever he ends up...really hope that it isn't Oklahoma though
Can't imagine a less fun sport to play than wrestling, except for maybe water polo
Well.....there's limits in the sense, you are only truly a FA if you've completed your undergraduate degree. Which I think is awesome. It's incentivizing the kids to complete their degrees in 3 years so they can transfer without penalty to a situation that helps them athletically. It's a win-win.
All indications are Tate will graduate by April. I think that's awesome.
Kendall Austin is also a graduate transfer should he choose to leave.
Jalen Hurts graduated on time, but his degree allows him to pick a spot good for him.
The new trasfer rule is awesome, IMO. It truly benefits the student athlete to get their shit done academically, sooner the better.......it's a great rule.
